They do not check middle eastern looking people. They don't want to be hurtful. Instead they pull white guys traveling on a ticket paid for by the Navy, with DOD ID and give them a hard time. They had a shit fit over the jars of Jam in my bag. This whole security thing is a sick joke.

What is going on ?? Last week, it was a passenger bypassing a security check point in st Louis and no one cared until a couple of minutes later and "duh, maybe we should try to find him. Oh well, we can just shut down the airport and cancel 80 flights." Can't these idiots look at the security tpes and track the perps down? Pathetic......

Why not? Back in the late 70s early eighties I used to bring back suitcases full of fireworks in checked baggage when I would go to the shipyard in Pascagoula. Pretty dumb and I stopped doing it when a bag was delayed due to a short connection. Fully expected to be arrested when I went to claim it. Nothing happened but the what couldas convinced me not to do it again. Of course anyone who would bring anything suspicious on a plane after 9/11 is in serious need of a cat scan.

60% of the security at SFO are 5-1 filipino guys who weigh about 97.9 lbs. The other 40% are 4-1 filipino women who weigh about 140 lbs.

Just cause the guy ran doesn't make him a terrorist. He could have had a warrant out for his arrest or something to that effect.

But what I want to know is how many years has Gary Condit been married to THAT WOMAN?

Saundra...I admire you. But, Condit seems to be only running for his seat again...to give his wife and kids a last grap at the pot of campaign monies.

Forget this loser and wait for the grand jury?

For God's sake....follow a proven winner. Israel is surrounded by these Islamic morons and they don't lose planes or people.The American system is play acting. It would be laughable if it weren't so stupid and dangerous to our lives.

I agree.

Here we are, trying to give the the "greedy victims" allowances of monies that they not try to sue the airlines...which in turn are controlled by the Feds...in regards to safety.

Is anyone interested in safety here...or lawsuits?

I am becoming increasing tired of the whole farce, myself.

I dont think it was mentioned on this thread yet....the guy didn't run. He took his shoes off...picked at random...then they ran his shoes through a machine...then he put his shoes on and walked off while the machine was doing its work....then 1 hour later the alert goes out.

"therefore, racial profiling is useless"

Sorry about the length of the following, but I think it is appropriate.

AIRPORT SCREENERS WILL NOT BE REQUIRED TO HAVE HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMAS!!!!!!

-------- - - - -ANYONE WANT TO TAKE A GUESS WHY???????

- - - - - - - - - -------------------- I wonder what the recruiting posters are going to say? "Didn't finish 9th grade? Have we got a job for you!" What about entrance exams? Are they going to have something to do with Legos(c) and finger-painting? But wait. There's more.
To ensure we never offend anyone - particularly fanatics intent on killing us - airport screeners will not be allowed to profile people.

They will continue random searches of 80-year-old women, little kids, airline pilots with proper identification, Secret Service agents who are members of the President's security detail and 85 year old Congressmen with metal hips.

Pause a moment and take the following test :

In 1979, the U.S. embassy in Iran was taken over by:
(a) Norwegians from Ballard;
(b) Elvis;
(c) A tour bus full of 80-year-old women; or
(d) Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 and 40.

In 1983, the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut was blown up by:
(a) A pizza delivery boy;
(b) Crazed feminists screeching that being able to throw a grenade beyond its own burst radius was an unfair and sexist requirement in basic training;
(c) Geraldo Rivera making up for a slow news day; or In 1988, Pan Am Flight 103 was bombed by:
(a) Luca Brazzi, for not being given a part in "Godfather 2;"
(b) The Tooth Fairy;
(c) Butch and Sundance who had a few sticks of dynamite left over from the train thing; or
(d) Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 and 40.

In 1998, the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania were bombed by:
(a) Mr. Rogers;
(b) Hillary, to distract attention from Wee Willie's women problems;
(c) the WWF, to promote its next villain: "Mustapha the Merciless;" or
(d) Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 and 40.

On 9/11/01, four airliners were hijacked and destroyed by:
(a) Bugs Bunny,
(b) the Supreme Court of Florida trying to outdo their attempted hijacking of the 2000 Presidential election;
(c) Mr. Bean; or
(d) Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 and 40.

How'd you do?

Did you detect a pattern that would indicate we'd better take a close look at a certain type of individual who might be boarding an airplane with something on his mind other than "What's the in-flight movie?"
You think so? Horrors! You're nothing more than a closet racist who could never be hired as an official federal airport screener. You probably molest goats too - but that's another column.
So, as it now stands, we have the Transportation Security Administration (letterhead: "No way WE'RE flying.") trying to improve the professionalism of airport screeners by lowering standards and forbidding the use of common sense in screening people. Makes sense, right? Right.

Pardon me while I go bang my head against the wall. Maybe that'll help me understand --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

...In your workplace, wear protection over your clothes and shoes if you cannot launder them before a flight, and then just dispose of the outerwear.

Hmmm. Did you get that off that Al Qaeda training CD?

I don't give a flying flip what convoluted excuses any apologist wants to make for why this guy fled, if he flees a security checkpoint, fill him full of holes. Make an example of the next person who flees, and others will think twice. We're talking about attempting to prevent someone from conducting mass murder, so you don't just walk away when you determine its inconvenient for you.

I'm not buying the excuses for this idiot either. But what the heck were they thinking in security? They had to have made him remove his shoes in order to inspect him. So either they gave him his shoes back even though they found explosive residue on them, or he took off without shoes on. Even in wacky San Francisco, I think a man running through an airport without shoes on would stand out in the crowd. And why didn't the guards try to stop him from going far in the first place?

Never, ever check luggage, once you let go of it, its hard tellin where its really gonna go. those same goons that do security?? their brothers/sisters work in baggage.....

Before 9/11, I remember seeing several stories about how much thievery goes on by the airport's baggage handlers. Forget about thinking that those luggage "locks" will protect you -- they have keys for all those locks, and it's child play to dig through your stuff.
