Way too many vanity threads lately. And way too much trash being posted. Please try to stay on topic (politics). Also, please do a search on a significant word from the title of your article before posting. This will reduce the number of duplicates. And, along these same lines, please use the original titles on your article posts. Do NOT edit the titles. Do NOT use "My Title" titles. This will also help to reduce the number of duplicates.

And, whatever else you do, please DO NOT post from DEMOCRATS UNDERGROUND (or any other such trashy un-American socialist hangout). Free Republic was intended to be a socialist free zone. We've gone to a heck of a lot of trouble to make it that way. Why in the world would you think we would be interested in having their trash posted here?

And QUIT trashing each other. You know who you are. Knock it off! Way too many flamewars and feuds going on. And, while I'm thinking about it, QUIT trashing our conservative candidates. If you want to criticize someone's position on some policy, have at it. But do not trash or smear the man. That would include Browne, Buchanan, Bush, Keyes, et al, or whomever else may be your favorite trashee (examples listed in alphabetical sequence). The idea is to get more conservatives elected, not to trash the ones you don't like. If you want to trash someone, make it a Democrat. Thank you.

And QUIT dredging up old communist propaganda to smear our conservatives. Sheesh! Whatever else you may think about our guys, they did not hijack airliners full of people and crash them into buildings. No, my friends, not even the dreaded CIA. Anyone who would believe (or even suspect) that crap is no FReeper. I've been pulling this crap whenever I see it and several people have been banned for continuing to post it. I do not want it on Free Republic. Any current FR poster who believes this leftist propaganda, please logoff immediately, send me your resignation via email, and I will delete your account.

That is why it was suggested by another freeper to repost. The weekend folks saw it, but not the weekday ones.

Having said that, I liked it when the moderator identifed the thread as a duplicate and locked the thread from additional postings. I haven't seen many "locked" duplicate threads lately and expect it's because it takes too much time for the moderator to take the action shown above. In any event, a locked thread with a link sents readers to the original one and cuts down on duplicate comments on the thread. If possible, I would like to see this feature/action by the moderators return to the forum."

We pull duplicates if they are posted a couple hours or less apart. If a thread is posted twice in two days, we leave them up. We try locking the threads, or sending mail as time allows. Sometimes it gets hectic and we just can't get to it. I would recommend if you don't hear from us within an hour or so, send mail or an abuse report to us with your screen name and we will send a reply. But, good news. John is working on a feature where you will be sent notification when the threads are locked or pulled. Coming soon to a thread near you!

There is a huge difference between valid or constructive criticism and trashing. You can criticize and debate a person's policy or position all day long, but those who continuously trash, bash, smear, libel or slander any our conservatives will probably not receive a very warm welcome here. Might even end up considered a DU disruptor and find his posting privileges revoked. Leave the leftist smear propaganda off please. One of our long term goals is to halt the erosion of our individual rights and to restore constitutional government. With this in mind, one of our objectives in the coming election cycle has to be to try to restore a conservative Senate majority and to strengthen our majority in the House. We also want to see as many conservatives as possible elected to state and local offices. To accomplish this, we obviously need to support those conservative candidates who stand the best chance of defeating the liberal.

Been getting a lot of "Bush worships owls" and "Bush engages in human sacrifices" DU style Boheminan Grove crap lately. Been banning anyone who posts such garbage. Same goes for the tinfoil hatters who claim that the US government hijacked planes full of people and crashed them into buildings (it's all about oil, don't you know). Ban bait.

Thank you for the search suggestions. I've tried the significant word route before and it hasn't worked -- just the original title seems to work for me, but I'll try it again. Perhaps my mind just does not work like everyone else's as far as identifying significant words, and that idiosyncracy results in failed searches! LOL. In the future, I promise to search both ways: full title + several significant words.

I hope that is not the case. FreeRepublic always has good hard news and this forum is a great source for not only the news but people's opinion on the news. There is always room to laugh at some of the humorous goings on in this world and I hope those type of stories always remain a part of this forum. The moment we stop laughing at ourselves is when we are really in trouble.

They are talking, I believe, about the practice of posting the exact same article without seeing if someone has already posted it. That thread on Robert S. Mosby was a complete waste of bandwidth and had nothing to do with political discourse in any shape form or fashion. It was a straight vanity dump.

And dump is definitely the right word.

And every time I see complete, utter nonsense about the legality of secession or the racism of Abraham Lincoln and the rest of the long list of crap spouted on FR by neo-confederate crazies, I will refute them with the historical record.

I know you don't like that; would that I would heed your diktat not to use the record. Sorry, can't do it.

I slummed over at DU and a couple of other Rat's nests(for educational purpose only!) over the past few weeks and have viewed several posts where people were talking about posting junk "bait" threads here.

The absurd Bush threads, as well as some racist posts I saw last week might be from the people on the other side of the fence.
