Also, maybe some folks (i.e. the ones who actually have lives) are doing something else on the weekends.
I'd hold off discussing Beren and Luthien until the appropriate time - Aragorn talks about them on the way to Rivendell. Same for Earendil - the perfect time to discuss him and his various family members is in the chapter where Bilbo recites his poem. (The one before Council of Elrond if I'm not mistaken)
I am so grateful that New Line took on this project--it just seems like everyone involved in it was "meant" to be involved.

Just like Bilbo was "meant" to find the ring and Frodo was "meant" to have it? (Sorry...I need to schedule therapy now.)
Sorry I couldn't make it, first day on the job, you know!
A question....Is Saruman using "The Voice" on Gandalf when he says "Against the power of Mordor there can be no victory. We must join with him, Gandalf. We must join with Sauron. It would be wise, my friend." For some reason, it seemed to me that Christopher Lee's voice changed, became more smooth and gentle. Which gives a whole different understanding of Gandalf's sarcastic "tell me, friend"...like he's letting Saruman know he knows exactly what he's trying to do.
Just a thought I had this time 'round...
Random observations:
Pippin's face when Frodo sees Bilbo at Rivendell is so sweet--he's so happy for Frodo.
Frodo's face when Galadriel says, "I pass the test...." he knows at that moment that there is no way out, that he must go on and fulfill the quest--alone.
Frodo saying "I know" to Aragorn when Aragorn says, "I would have gone with you to the end....into the very fires of Mordor." It is precisely because he knows that Aragorn would do so, and thus expose himself constantly to the corrupting power of the ring, that Frodo must leave. I feel really stupid that it took this many times for me to understand the significance of that line. Frodo leaving the fellowship saved the future king.
Sam in the boat sitting behind Frodo, continuing to glance at him--he knows something's up, but he doesn't know what and he doesn't know how to ask...
Frodo jumping when Aragorn taps him on the shoulder to point out the Argonath.
I cried when they left Lothlorien this time--the last peace any of them will ever know for a very, very long time.
Boromir's look of peace when Aragorn says, "I will not let the White City fall."
Frodo's sacrifice in taking the ring on "alone," Sam's dogged loyalty, and all the sacrifices made to cover Frodo's escape.
This is a beautiful film....truly amazing.

News on the TTT preview!!! At an event yesterday, PJ was said by eye-witnesses to be indicating the preview would be coming out mid-March and immediately follows the Sam and Frodo fadeout. This apparently will place its release just prior to the Oscars, and it implies a short re-release in areas where the movie has left theaters already, and maybe an extension for the movie in areas where it hasn't left yet. According to things I've read, it's almost a given that Oscar contenders will be in theaters near Oscar Awards time even if a movie has left theaters prior to the awards ceremony.
Rumor is it will be at the big Seatte theater until late March, it will probably last until the re-release of ET which I think happens in mid-to-late March.
RoseCotton--here's hoping it'll show up, albeit briefly, for you in your town one last time...

Amen to that. This will stand as one of the best decisions he's ever made!
Doesn't that read like a nail-biting suspense story -- even though you know the ending? Amazing.
