Frustrated investigators looking into the crash of American Airlines Flight 587 have an important new piece of evidence. Government sources tell Time that analysts at the National Transportation Safety Board last week got their first look at a remarkable videotape of the deadly accident. Recorded by a surveillance camera at a New York City area tollbooth, the tape captures nearly the entire catastrophe that sent the Airbus A300 crashing into a residential neighborhood in Queens less than 3 min. after takeoff from John F. Kennedy International Airport on Nov. 12. According to an NTSB source, the plane can be seen "flying along normally and intact, and suddenly things start to go very wrong." The video records the plane as it begins its descent. The crash is obscured, but the tape continues to run and smoke can be seen rising from the scene. Experts at the NTSB are optimistic that the tape will help answer critical questions about the precise sequence of events as the plane began to break apart, and exactly how and when the tail section separated from the body of the plane. This is the second video record the board has obtained of the crash, but the first one was virtually useless because the plane could be seen only as a tiny speck.
I was thinking the same thing. Perhaps they are waiting for the Islamic Terrorist to claim responsibility. Cat and mouse ...

If I were doing an investigation, I would collect and examine all the raw data as quickly as possible (before it gets misplaced or damaged, etc.), and then start on the more time-consuming (but less pressing) analysis phase.
Nonsense on stilts. They've had the toll booth videotape since a couple of days after the crash.
Tinfoilers are actually quite amusing, until you realize that (gasp!) they're all around us....
My pilot brother said that this plane was flipped over and landed on its tail in a giant windstorm in France a while back. When the tail fell off, due to stress from the flip over, the plane giro's and can rip the wings off, but its been engineered to rip the engines off instead. You can land a plane with one engine, no stabilizer tail but not one wing. He says the engine falling off does cause an explosion also! There is almost nothing correct about this, starting with the fact Airbuses are NOT designed to have the engines break away in a gear-up landing. And I've never been served a giro on an airplane (though I've never flown from Queens to Greece, which, I suppose, would raise the odds of that happening).
Tinfoilers are actually quite amusing, until you realize that (gasp!) they're all around us....We're the same people who think a very expensive trial resulted in a bad verdict (O.J).
The same people who think all those PhDs can be wrong about global warming.
The same people who think Gore almost stole the election using illegal voters.
Yup, bogus trials, bad science, and election fraud are NOT "conspiracy theory" (even though the same media feeds us the same crap about these things) and when an inconvenient plane blows up, it IS tinfoil hattish to suggest that keeping it quiet might be to the benefit of recently bailed-out airlines and nacent homeland security efforts that cannot keep baggage bombs and suicide bombers off of airplanes. And, of course, it is PURE CHANCE this happens almost within sight of GWB standing at Ground Zero a couple weeks after Osama threatens airliners and rips into the UN (the UNGA was in town, too).
Yup, unreliable tinfoil. Especially compared with the track record of those highly reliable "cautious" people: bad tail, old engine, birds, cheese, wake, and now pilot error. Oh ya. We'll get it wrong for sure.
Yep especially on FR. Still no answer in this thread to my reply #10.
Now, Asmodeus obviously did not do a search for 587 before he/she posted. So, he/she should consider her/himself on report. ;-)
Oh, heck, that's just the old country. I was afraid you were one of those Canadians or Mes'kins or sum'thin subversive like that. Nothing to see here, go about your duties, citizen....

I have no problem with a repeated post. I have done it, as have many of us. I thought moderators would move the repeat posts off the sidebar leaving the one that was oldest or had the most replies.
Guess I'm a little sensitive having had a few posts removed.
Sour Grapes
Interesting Story anyway and thanks to ALL for posting it!
puh-leez. They had 10 different explanations within 3 days of the crash (including the bird impact), but the only one that wasn't open for discussion was the most probable in light of 9/11--terrorism.
I see no reason to think that they have never considered terrorism. What do you base your claim on?
