I am very happy that America has begun to open its eyes.

However, I have this really bad feeling that things are going to get messy over there in the Middle East.

I pray that the other Arabs will sit this one out and let Israel clean up the territories. I believe that following the reconquest of the territories, Israel should begin a long, long process of 're-educating' the Palestinians (removing the hate from the next generation and introducing democracy within the territories) in the same way that the Allies re-educated (de-nazified) Germany and Japan, following World War II.

I hope you are right, but it is asking a lot to take the "SLAM" out of I-SLAM.

I've probably said this on too many threads, but the example of Germany is a very good one. The best thing that happened to Germany in the 20th century is that the Allies shattered the Nazi regime, hung some war criminals, and carried out the denazification program, which was often clumsy but got the point across. No deals with "moderate" Nazis, no continuation of the regime under any form. It broke the spell of Hitlerism. It showed all but the most dense and corrupt that Hitler was a false prophet. And it also showed that the path Germany had been on was definitively closed. It wasn't going to be tolerated. It led only to misery.

Result: five years after the war ended there was hardly anyone in Germany who would admit to having ever been pro-Nazi. I think people would be surprised how fast the Palestinians might turn around if something similar took place with regard to the PLO and all its surrounding organizations and surrogates. Military victory is a surprisingly effective way to change hearts and minds.
