"Resolved, That Women's Studies is Not a Legitimate Academic Discipline"
Christina Hoff Sommers is the W.H. Brady Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and Chairman of the Independent Women's Forum National Advisory Board.
She is author of the recently released book The War Against Boys: How Misguided Feminism Is Harming Our Young Men. She specializes in ethics and contemporary moral theory and has published many scholarly articles in such journals as the Journal of Philosophy and the New England Journal of Medicine. Sommers became known to the wider public as the author of Who Stole Feminism?: How Women Have Betrayed Women.
She is best known for her writings on two subjects: moral education in the schools, and feminism and American culture. Her articles have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Boston Globe, USA Today, the National Review, the New Republic, the Weekly Standard, the Chicago Tribune, and the Times Literary Supplement.
Sommers has appeared on Nightline, ABC's World News Tonight, CBS Evening News, Crossfire, Eye To Eye, 20/20, Inside Politics, Equal Time, Politically Incorrect, and the Oprah Winfrey Show to discuss such issues as the future of feminism and gender bias in the schools. You forgot that we are talking about the type of women with looks that can't even be improved with 100 power beer goggles.
Since I don't see anyone else helping you out, I'll give it a shot. The link clearly says: NEXT WEEK IN THE YALE POLITICAL UNION ... Christina Hoff Summers ... Monday, January 28.
The point of the post is that there will be a ruckus over her engagement, if not just because of who she is, then surely because she's questioning preposterously divisive "womens studies" being a legitimate academic discipline (which we all know it isn't). At an Ivy League college. Liberals hate her guts. Subsequent posts to this thread give you all the information you need about Dr. Wade and his nasty, repugnant comments about her.
Well.... actually, he is a PhD in psychology who specializes in "men's issues" and claims to be an authority on helping people develop "listening skills." No lie. The guy proved himself to be a total charlatan with his little tirade at the HHS event where he verbally assaulted Dr. Sommers.
The entire Kurtz article was posted three times so far as ongoing threads, and three times it's been deleted by the management for unspecified reasons. I don't know what's at work in that regard, but it's very annoying, and kind of suspicious.
Heheh...Those were the daze.
I guess not. I always looked at college as being that way. Of course I never considered majoring in anything except mechanical engineering. People that I knew that were in the field before me got jobs right after graduation, so I always assumed that's what college is for.
The Kurtz article was posted to FR three times - twice by me - and all three times the thread was pulled for unspecified reasons. In my own postings, I emphasized the Dept. of HHS angle, which - in my opinion - is more egregious than Wade's immature verbal assault. Essentially, what we have in this inciden is a government sponsored academic lynching. Wade is professionally embarrassed and - hopefully - ruined for obtaining tenure. But the government left wing apparatchiks who orchestrated the silencing of a conservative voice of reason will go on as if the incident never happened.

Yes, this is key - women nowadays do not have any sense of their real value. God made woman for a specific purpose - to be a helper to her husband. My Pastor preaches to the husbands in our church that God made a woman from Adam's rib - which is Adam's side - indicating God meant for a woman to have an equal side-by-side place. God did not use a bone from Adam's foot - indicating a man should tread all over a woman; nor did God choose a bone from man's head - indicating a man should lord it over a woman. The bone came from Adam's side - indicating they were to be a helper to each other. Your church may teach differently, but that's what my Pastor teaches to our church. He also tells husbands they are responsible for the success of the marriage. If you are not the leader of the relationship before you get married, you will not be the leader after you're married.
Yes, it is indeed "suspicious" and "annoying". And it must be really annoying to the decent half of America who thought they had elected a President who would finally free them from the scumbag Democrats who were running the show at HHS, only to find that these same sickening scumbag Democrats are still there, and still (apparently) running the show.
I don't think she was mentioned in that class. We did have to read a book on a Jewish woman's life 16-17th century (her husband died, I think, and she was all independent), etc.
There are a lot of worthwhile "conservative" colleges out there. While they are not Yale or Princeton, they are academically more sound than most and they also do not have the feminist agenda to put up with. Let's get real here folks, people send their children there because the word Yale or Princeton on a diploma lands their children cushier jobs - they think. The parents don't realize their children are being brainwashed.
However, there is hope on the horizon - we have a whole generation of "home schooled" conservative children about to hit the colleges of America - STAND BACK - I believe it's going to be another revolution on our campuses; toward the conservative side. It is interesting this will hit during the time Bush is in office, and he can present a "perfect" role model of the conservative position.
However, in the HUMAN kingdom - the husband is only supposed to service ONE WIFE!! I know that's a hardship on you guys, but that's the breaks!!
You got that right - in fact I would go so far as to say - ALL LIBERALS HAVE SELECTIVE LISTENING; it's part of their makeup.
