Are You familiar with early American history where lawyers were not allowed to be politicians? I've read things that say that was written in our Constitution, but don't have proof.

Not that I like Paul Harvey but one of his shows I heard said that lawyers were actually run out of communities in early America.

There's also the thing about our politicians not accepting titles from foriegn governments and lawyers holding the title of Esquire from the King.

I also read once that some of our politicians hold citizenship in other countries mainly Israel, probably for bank accounts.

And ditto on the examples, I don't think we would have much trouble filling the dancing classes for years.

I've read about an amendment which would have been the 13th had it been ratified, which barred anyone who accepts the title of 'Esquire' from holding public office, but have never actually read the text of the amendment.

I think that there are enough dance lesson candidates to keep us busy for decades. Seems to me that if lawyers didn't hold a virtual monopoly in court proceedings, there would be a bounty on them.

I once went to an open hearing held by the legislature of Delaware on the public sentiment over some changes to the state workers comp law. I was recognized to ask a few questions. Instead of questioning the panel, I asked the large number of men surrounding the panel's table (in the best seats to view the proceedings, BTW) how many of them were members of the Bar Association. Nearly all raised their hands. I then asked how many were residents of Delaware. Not a single one raised his hand.

That crowd of men were Bar Association members who had written the draft legislation under review. They were the sole lobby for the passage of the legislation. Not a single resident of Delaware spoke in favor of the legislation, and it passed in the next session.
