Perhaps, in his eyes, stealing a relatively small amount of money would decrease the chance of being caught. I can't believe that he was stupid enought to risk the welfare of his kids! I'm sorry if you have money problems, but there are legal ways to get help. (By the way, most people have money problems at one time or another - it's part of life.)
