Bush Reads Up on Media Bias

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush had nothing to say to reporters as he left the White House on Friday for a trip to Maine but his choice of reading matter spoke volumes.

As he strode past television cameras, still photographers and a clutch of correspondents to his helicopter, Bush held in his hand a copy of ``Bias: A CBS Insider Exposes How the Media Distorts the News,'' a new book by the veteran network correspondent Bernard Goldberg.

``I can't hear you,'' the president responded to shouted questions lost in the noise of Marine One's engines.

Bush headed to Portland, Maine, to talk about border security and tout his budget proposal for an extra $2.1 billion to help protect the United States following the Sept. 11 attacks.

The money would be used to hire more border patrol agents and track foreigners as they come and go from the United States.

The Goldberg book, in which the former CBS correspondent charged that the network where he worked for 28 years as well as other news organizations suffer from an unconscious liberal bias, has made it onto the New York Times bestseller list.

I'll check ABC--any takers for NBC?

It will be un-pleasant, but I guess I could 'take one for the team.'

Fun fact: Ronald Reagan used to talk to reporters with his Marine One helicopter in the background so he could ignore the reporters if he wanted to.

Dubya is learning from the master. tehehehe...

I remember when I was a kid and my parents telling me about when Ike was in the White House and everything was so great. Now I'm telling my kid about how good things were when Reagan was president while I was a kid in the 80's. I really miss the 80's because things were so much simpler...As I tell my kid now, the only child hood fear I had was of being nuked in my sleep. Grizzly, but simple campared to 9/11.

I'm counting on you guys to bite the bullet for the rest of us tonight. Medals in the mail.

The video (and the book), were shown on C-Span earlier today...in fact, it might have been the live feed.

Amen to that, brother. I also look forward to telling my (as yet non-existent) kiddies about Ronaldus Magnus.

No surprise--no mention of Bush's reading material on ABC--dummy Charlie Gibson was pinch-hitting for Jennings tonight...
