Here are the Republicans and RINOs who signed the discharge petition. There are 20. I did this count the hard way, going down the petition and checking party for each congresscritter I didn't know, so there may be a few errors. Also, keep in mind that perhaps some of these signed on in order to sink the bill, as you have wisely suggested, D Joyce. Just for fun, I am also posting their American Conservative Union scores for the year 2000 (the last number given), when the average Republican scored a 83.09 (where 100 is the most conservative, above 80 is considered conservative, 60-80 is moderate, and where my personal RINO cutoff would probably be around 60, with some give each way depending on region, being wrong on a few pet issues, etc.). Draw your own conclusions, and do please share:

Horn (CA 38) 56
Shays (CT 4) 60
Castle (DE A-L) 68
Graham (SC 3) 100 [pet issue I think]
Platts (PA 19) N/A
Roukema (NJ 5) 68
Houghton (NY 31) 52
Greenwood (PA 8) 60
Morella (MD 8) 29 [no, not a mistake]
Kirk (IL 10) N/A
Johnson (CT 6) 56
Leach (IA 1) 58
Wamp (TN 3) 87
Simmons (CT 2) N/A
Ramstad (MN 3) 68
Gilchrest (MD 1) 58
Wolf (VA 10) 72
Ganske (IA 4) 73
Petri (WI 6) 84
Bass (NH 2) 75

"I thought the Rats wanted the issue not the bill."

It's win-win-win for them. Either the House GOPs shoots down the bill in a roll-call vote, in which case the Rats get to demagogue the heck out of it in November; or Bush has to veto the bill, allowing the Rats to play connect-the-dots back to Enron; or the bill passes, and becomes just one more law for the Rats to enforce against us but not themselves. Yes, that last possibility is the least desirable to them—the FEC will have to go after Dems at least some of the time, just to keep up appearances—but that's a small gamble for a very big payoff.

"Shays/Meehan CFR HEADED TO THE HOUSE! HALLELEUAH!!!"
http://www.cnn.com/2002/ALLPOLITICS/01/24/campaign.finance/index.html

Folks, am I the only one excited as HELL about this?? Of course the media is quiet on this, but that in itself should SCREAM how important this is for the Democratic Party!!

It's WIN/WIN/WIN FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!

It passes, Bush signs it, WE WIN!
It passes, Bush vetos it, WE WIN, MAYBE EVEN BIGGER!
It fails (along party lines, DUH!) WE WIN, MAYBE BIGGEST OF ALL!

The RePukes had the biggest fund raising year IN THEIR F*CKING HISTORY LAST YEAR: DOES ANY FOOL BELIEVE THAT CAME FROM JOE PUBLIC, AND NOT FROM CORPORATE SOFT MONEY????

Rejoice! We Conquer! I personally believe this could be the biggest event of the year prior to the 2002 elections!!

Am I alone on this or what?
