Fellowship Of The Ring: Cultural Event of Great Significance
I like this part (at the end) ...For all its riches, "The Fellowship of the Ring" does not satisfy. You don't leave the theater sighing contentedly, "Wow, that was awesome. Weren't the Hobbits cute?" No: You are seized by a restless yearning for purity and beauty, to be worthy of Middle Earth; deeply inspired, as by a Muse; remoralized.
You realize afresh that humans cannot live without ideals, that ideals are more real than the starkest realism and more essential, just as art is more real than life hence its terribly beauty.
You have experienced the sublime, defined by John Ruskin: "Anything which elevates the mind is sublime, and elevation of mind is produced by the contemplation of greatness of any kind, whether of matter, space, power, beauty or virtue." Life is re-aestheticized.
I just got back from watching the film... and may it always leave me feeling this way.
and yes I checked the link
He did an excellent job as Bilbo.
Ian Holm was unquestionably Bilbo!
Funny thing in my mind is, if/when any of the hobbits try to play other roles, will they be thought of as too short? I am pretty conviced they are only 3 feet tall.

Quintessential Lord of the Rings Movieshots (their title)
The pages are laid out like the books... Books 1-6. There are a few shots from the next films, books 3-6... Helms Deep, The cities and soldiers from Rohan and Gondor that I haven't seen before anywhere else.
Not an ent in sight yet... not worried, because maybe they have just been able to keep ithem very secret...
The quality of the pictures is variable... some appear to either be scans or digicam shots of the film? who knows but some of them are of good "screensaver quality" which is what I was searching for.
The Attack on Weathertop, the Lego version.

Drool.....Sigh
J. R. R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is my all time favorite book.
I'm going to try and present the bulk of the story in Lego format.
This is going to take a long time, so check back regularly.
Give people an unlimited amount of free time, and who knows how creative they they can be.
That post by Sorcery is something else... what an encyclopedia.
We can start talking about the next movie whenever you like. I will let you know when the trailers start coming out! Hee Hee
I saw it for the fifth time today, my eldest son's third time.
Thank you kindly for the ping, ecurbh
They have moved it to one of the smaller theaters in the complex... but the smaller theater was still full.
FYI - I have posted a lot of movie pics (for your viewing/posting pleasure!) at my Webshots album. (look past my personal albums)
I'm well beyond that - they know I am nuts. Thanks for the link, there are some great shots there.
Bump! ;~D
