Great new thread posted tonight... about the same time mine was:

Fellowship Of The Ring: Cultural Event of Great Significance

I like this part (at the end) ...For all its riches, "The Fellowship of the Ring" does not satisfy. You don't leave the theater sighing contentedly, "Wow, that was awesome. Weren't the Hobbits cute?" No: You are seized by a restless yearning for purity and beauty, to be worthy of Middle Earth; deeply inspired, as by a Muse; remoralized.

You realize afresh that humans cannot live without ideals, that ideals are more real than the starkest realism and more essential, just as art is more real than life — hence its terribly beauty.

You have experienced the sublime, defined by John Ruskin: "Anything which elevates the mind is sublime, and elevation of mind is produced by the contemplation of greatness of any kind, whether of matter, space, power, beauty or virtue." Life is re-aestheticized.

I just got back from watching the film... and may it always leave me feeling this way.

and yes I checked the link

Ian Holm fans who haven't seen Kenneth Branagh's Henry V yet will find even more reason to like his work after seeing that.

He did an excellent job as Bilbo.

Ian Holm was unquestionably Bilbo!

Funny thing in my mind is, if/when any of the hobbits try to play other roles, will they be thought of as too short? I am pretty conviced they are only 3 feet tall.

Thanks Carolina... I need something to keep me going huh? I have been browsing around this morning and this is the most picture-intensive site I have found... There are pics from "cut" scenes, like the Marshes, and some cut scenes from LothLorien..

Quintessential Lord of the Rings Movieshots (their title)

The pages are laid out like the books... Books 1-6. There are a few shots from the next films, books 3-6... Helms Deep, The cities and soldiers from Rohan and Gondor that I haven't seen before anywhere else.

Not an ent in sight yet... not worried, because maybe they have just been able to keep ithem very secret...

The quality of the pictures is variable... some appear to either be scans or digicam shots of the film? who knows but some of them are of good "screensaver quality" which is what I was searching for.

I got so inspired reading this thread last night that I decided to go see the movie again today. It was wonderful. I have this bookmarked, so I hope there is a lot of neat stuff on it.

Here's a fun version of LOTR:

The Attack on Weathertop, the Lego version.

RE: Great stuff... I hope so too...
Here is some:

This looks like the fatal shot at the cave troll in Moria. Note two arrows. Legolas IS THE ELF!

I love that! - From the site:

J. R. R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is my all time favorite book.
I'm going to try and present the bulk of the story in Lego format.
This is going to take a long time, so check back regularly.

Give people an unlimited amount of free time, and who knows how creative they they can be.

Cool link. Thank you for this entire thread. It links to an incredible amount of information. I saw the film for the third time today. I am waiting for the DVD. I will have a lot of fun freeze-framing, zooming, and replaying scenes. When should we start discussing the next LOTR movie? July? September? We can really drive the anti-Ringers nuts!

Yes there did end up being a lot of info here! - I can't believe I messed up the links on the original post! (I was mortified) Thanks again to John Farson the mechanic for fixing the links in POST 18!

That post by Sorcery is something else... what an encyclopedia.

We can start talking about the next movie whenever you like. I will let you know when the trailers start coming out! Hee Hee

Good thing you guys are here for support... 5 myself and at least one friend thinks I am nuts.

They have moved it to one of the smaller theaters in the complex... but the smaller theater was still full.

FYI - I have posted a lot of movie pics (for your viewing/posting pleasure!) at my Webshots album. (look past my personal albums)
