I've seen the Bush Administration (Carl Rove) do this with the illegal alien rumors, remember how everyone was complaining about his plans to grant amnesty to 3 million illegals?, we saw 3 to 4 articles a day from the New York Times trashing him over that plan, but the only thing he ever said in public was "We are keeping all options open" and once he stirred up enough democrats and could show a few tapes where the RATS denounced the illegals, he backed off.

Carl Rove is behind these traps for the RATS, he and Bush know the RATS cannot resist the opprotunity to blast him, we will hear Daschle saying, "This plan is irresponsible considering the shape of our economy, even some members of his own party don't support this idea, and we will fight it all the way," Of coarse the RATS will want to lead the charge in condemning something that was only SAID to be announced, If you look closely, there is not a single quote by the President, only a quote from Daniels.

This will in effect be the democrats fault why a Bill that supported food stamps for immigrants was shot down. Thus you have your cake and eat it too. You can always say you supported the bill but the democrats killed it. George W. Bush once said he was a student of Reagans politics. Reagan used this tactic many times. When all was said and done Ronald Reagan would say "It's far easier to win back the voter's from the right wing of the party, than it is the to win support from the left."

Correct me if I'm mistaken. Were the talks sceduled, then put on hold because of 9/11? Are the talks with Fox on again?

I'm aware of the tactic, and that it may be in play. I think I've been pretty consistent in saying "If Bush does this, I'm withholding my vote."

I'm definitely leaving myself an out to be pleasantly surprised.

OTH, this tactic also relies on others to play a role. The base has to get agitated at times, and this is the issue that does it for me.

And I really think it's a dumb issue on which to use this tactic. If you look at the polls on immigration and illegals, Bush is pandering in a losing direction.

Pretty good poker playing, eh? Some don't understand what Bush is up to sometimes. But there is one thing he is after when he makes these kinds of moves. Control of the Congress.

As I posted way before he was elected, "don't play poker with George W. Bush".

But spreading rumors is most beneficial right...
