but remember, hunger hurts

From your lips to Ted Kennedy's ears.

This is all a charade. The GOP has not reduced government spending since the Eisenhower administration -- and those were defense cuts.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but it seems to me that it is rather Bush who has not only forgotten but rejected the base that made it possible for him to be sitting where he is sitting.

But you think he's doing a good job, and that's fine by me, I just can't seem to point to a thing myself. Maybe he will heave hard right and I'll change my mind again, who knows.

We can't end the food stamp program until people don't need it.

And then, do you promise that we'll end it? That'll be a first, won't it?! Do you know of any gubmint program that "we" ever ended?

Also, let's keep in mind that these programs are not necessarily for the people we are told "who need it". You might remember that the King of Food Stamps himself (you probably voted for him in 1996,) was the King not for reasons of ethnic pandering but for his agribusiness supporters. The hungry don't sent lobbyists to Washington and they don't count for much when it comes to voting, but the potato chip and other junk food makers do. Let's get real and see who benefits the most at this little game!

Looks like I'm against us. Never could stand for socialism. Your big tents gonna have alot of holes in it pretty soon. Bush won't be able to outdemocrat a Democrat in the long run. They will always get the leaches, and Bush will have shot any conservative principles he has right in the foot.

The Stimulous Bill was a prime example, It was masterful, Remember when Bush said that there is some better than expected manufacturing numbers come in for the 4th quarter?, The next day Bush was pushing the Stimulous BIGTIME, Daschle took the biggest ass whippin since he bribed his way into the leadership role. just look at what was changed each time the Republicans gave in a little, they would hike the other end of the bill and Daschle could'nt agree with it. Thus DASCHLE is to blame.

Actually, I took issue with your statement about him doing more harm than the Clintons. I thought I was pretty clear about that. Maybe not.....

Bush just pumped $26 billion into the Department of Education's bloated budget;

And what would happen if he gave nothing? We would love it, but the unformed massses have been led to believe more money solves everything via the heartbreaking stories by the press. They vote.
But the testing is good. It documents the failures, allowing more ammo tward the school choice debate.

Bush now wants to put 800,000 immigrants back on the public dole and make them dependent on the government.

No. The dumocraps will not let Bush buy that vote. They won't let the bill go through. The Hispanics would like it, and Bush would get the applause.
It will be democraps fault the immigrants are starving, because they stopped the bill. More votes for Bush on the way.
It's a plus/plus issue for Bush.
He offered, he's the good guy. The dumocraps reject it because it benifits Bush , he's still the good guy.

Reagan used this tactic many times. When all was said and done Ronald Reagan would say "It's far easier to win back the voter's from the right wing of the party, than it is the to win support from the left."

I'm aware of the tactic, and that it may be in play. I think I've been pretty consistent in saying "If Bush does this, I'm withholding my vote."

I'm definitely leaving myself an out to be pleasantly surprised.

OTH, this tactic also relies on others to play a role. The base has to get agitated at times, and this is the issue that does it for me.

And I really think it's a dumb issue on which to use this tactic. If you look at the polls on immigration and illegals, Bush is pandering in a losing direction.

I'm betting you're wrong, because I believe President Bush is a different breed of republican. He's no Trent Lott. "The parasites will still vote for" the democrats, no matter what President Bush, (or any republican) does.

I see Hispanics as totally different from black inner city welfare recipients, who stay on welfare for generations. Hispanics just don't do that. For them, it's the temporary leg up any hard working family might need during a bad time. Am I a polyanna? I hope not.

Bush waited for 4 or 5 weeks after every single Libertarian was prepared for war, and once the Democrats were tired of racing to the microphones to bash him over this Amnesty Proposal, George W. Bush said in a press conference "I have never said I was for blanket Amnesty for illegals, I feel if there is people who want to work and an employer who needs help, we should make it easier for them to hook up" I firmly believe they never planned to propose any amnesty, but one thing is for sure, it was democrats who were in front of the camera's blasting illegals, that couldn't of hurt the chances of getting some democrat hispanic voter's to swap over.

You're either with the Food Stamp program or you're with the Terrorists, according to concerned about politics.

Who said anything about terrorists? I'm talking about the war in Washington between parties. Please re-read.

that it's only fair to give legal aliens benefits after five years

We're being told on one hand that the immigrants will save Social Security and are the best taxpayers there ever was. On the other hand we're told they just can't make it on their own and need food stamp programs. We should never let people come here who are unable to provide for themselves and their families.

Trying to end black and white poverty was different because they are long time American citizens, especially black poverty had it's roots in slavery and discrimination that occurred in this country ----but there is no reason at all for us to bring in immigrants who can't make it by working.

I know. I have a friend who is in the process of converting all his old Super 8's to digital video and then editing it with iMovie and burning it on iDVD. Especially for those who have kidlets - it is a neat way to preserve memories.
