I will tell you why Rah Rah macho talk is worth more than teets on a bull. It brings about a proper attitude. Did you ever notice before a football game, for instance, that the players will partake of some of that rah rah macho talk? No matter how slim their chances of victory?

I can see no practical purpose to saying "there is no logical reason I can win" before going into a fight. WHo cares.

Now that I have better explained my distain for defeatist attitudes, I will give you a logical reason why you should have hope.

In my opinion the fight we are engaged in has two fronts. There is a cultural front and a political front. The mistake of the conservative movement has been to fight almost exclusively on the political front, while the culture rots beneath us. The truth is that politics follow culture, not the other way around.

The reason why the culture is rotting beneath us is because the left has controlled for decades the institutions that shape our culture. Put simply, our current state of cultural decay has been engineered. If it can be engineered it can be re-engineered.

In preceding centuries cultures developed slowly through the accumulated knowledge of generation after generation. Modern technology has allowed information to pass so much faster and so much easier that the left's assault basically destroyed in one generation, what took centuries to cultivate.

So what gives me hope, is the idea that just as the cultural factories of media, education, and entertainment have been hijacked, they also can be rehijacked. How is the important question. And I think it is more important and productive than asking how we can possibly win.

Can you give me a logical reason why we can't do that?

"and why shouldn't we have hope, after all, we are Americans" -Ronald Reagan (paraphrased from memory but same idea)

I, too, am optimistic. Actually quite a bit more since 9/11. First, we have 24/7 news media which is injecting competition into the lockhold the "Big 3" had for years. Read the book "Stolen Valor" if you want some insight into what Cronkite et.al. did to shape the public's view of Vietnam - it will make you furious.

Second, there is the Internet, where loony liberal ideas (previously out of view for most people) can be discovered and instantly disseminated. I am convinced that the Internet (in particular FR) was instrumental in keeping ALGORE from stealing the election with the help of Clinton and his mob buddies.

Now, if you want to discuss the trend of Americans away from their traditional Judeo-Christian background in favor of loony New Age crap, I would argue that many people in my generation (born 1959) are rejecting the secular humanist views embraced by the '60s crowd and returning to traditional religion.

Getting ahold of the education establishment and Hollywierd will be difficult, but doable in time.

I'm not a defeatist, but a realist. I vote in every election. I pray for our leaders and our country. I point out the errs of liberalism whenever I have an opportunity to make a difference. And I'll keep doing just that and doing it passionately. I won't quit fighting, but to "go down fighting" as you advocated in your first post and to have a realistic chance of winning are two entirely separate things.

Liberals control our public school systems and control our institutions of higher learning. And they're SO entrenched that unseating them is simply all but impossible. They control our media, and while we've made gains on cable channels, that's still a TINY sliver of the media pie; this country still gets its news on ABC, CBS, and NBC, unfortunately. Between education and media, the liberals have the infrastructure in place to brainwash nearly from cradle to grave.

I agree wholeheartedly that politics follows culture. I've been saying for years that the most disturbing thing about the Clintons is not what they caused, but rather the sad fact that they are a REFLECTION of this society.

To use your football mentality, we're late in the 4th and losing 62-7. We can get as fired up as we like and fight as hard as we want, but it's extremely unlikely to change the outcome of the game.

I applaud your enthusiasm and am fighting right beside you but my belief as to the direction we'll continue to go is my belief and no amount of childish insults like "be a friggin' man" will cause me to ignore the evidence that surrounds us on a daily basis. Twenty years from now, as compared to today...

Study those questions and see how you really feel they'll turn out. Answer if you like; I'm about done on this thread myself. Plenty of real work to go do.
