The Authoritarian Psalm

The state is my shepherd, I shall not want.
It maketh me to lie down in common pastures,
It preventeth me from peeking behind the brown wrapper,
It controleth my soul.
It forceth me into paths of righteousness for my own sake.
Yea though I walk through the valley of potential temptation,
I will fear no deviation, for the state is with me;
Its militarized policemen, they comfort me.
It prepareth a means for the control of mine enemies.
It anointeth my head with programs; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and social security will follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the state forever.

The "state" is ultimately the people. Why do I not have a right to live in a community with common values? Why should we be forced to tolerate such destructive activities in our streets and neighborhoods?

Why shouldn't states be allowed to decide for themselves? If you were in power, would you FORCE all states to take a Libertarian stance on all these things, thereby destroying the greatest gift our founders gave us?
