...here in Texas. My job as a precinct chairman was made extremely difficult at the last election because of motor-voter. I was told that if someone claimed to have signed up at the motor-voter thing I HAD TO LET THEM VOTE, without ever knowing if they were even a citizen. There was no way on God's green earth I could determine if they were a citizen on Election Day.

Once again and forever Bill Clinton bites us in the behind.

No excuses for Clinton, but much of what you're complaining about is a function of state law, no?

In California, it was the sate Democrats who forbade the DMV from determining residence status before registering voters and issuing drivers licenses.

Who was the Pro-Surrender Governor of Texas when you were a precinct charman?

It was state law filtered into the election code and conservatives were right in their assessments that it would lead to abuse, which it has, in spades. I've served as election judge for many years and I am gernarlly energized by my involvement but this last election was the very first which caused me to go home bone-tired and utterly disgusted with election matters.

This last election, in TN, the state was given a ruling by DOJ concerning motor voter,if they claimed to have signed up to vote, we were to check with public safety records, if they said they signed, we were to allow them to vote. The way around that was to have poll watchers at all polls and they could contest the vote. Of course this ruling came down on Friday just before closing, and most election commissions did not get the info until Tuesday after the polls had opened!
