Who let the dogs out?

Scientific American has sicced the big dogs on Danish statistician Bjorn Lomborg for having the audacity to publish a highly referenced book, "The Skeptical Environmentalist," which argues that global warming and many other environmental "threats" are overblown. What gives?

Why draw so much attention to a book you don't want to sell? Clearly, the editorial boards of Nature and Scientific American, as well as the leadership of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS, the publisher of Science) perceive a big threat if Mr. Lomborg goes unanswered.

Eco-heretic beset by hate campaign-- The book was published by Cambridge University Press. Last autumn it sent Lomborg on a promotional tour of Britain and America, little realising the reaction that was building up.

….Snip…..

It began when Lomborg was heckled and booed at a book-signing at Borders bookshop in Oxford. As he was speaking, one of the crowd rushed forward and pushed a cream-laden baked Alaska pie into his face.

Good for Cambridge University Press!

" Democratic Socialists of America share a vision of a humane international social order based on equitable distribution of resources, meaningful work, gender and racial equality, a healthy environment, sustainable growth, and non-oppressive relationships."

The Eco-Justice Working Group-- The Eco-Justice Working Group of the National Council of Churches provides an opportunity for the national bodies of member Protestant and Orthodox denominations to work together to protect and restore God's creation. It was created in 1983. Environmental Justice is a wholistic term which includes all ministries designed to heal and defend creation. Eco-Justice is an even broader term that includes efforts to assure justice for all of creation and the human beings who live in it. A major task of the Working Group is providing program ideas and resources to help congregations as they engage in environmental justice. Several are offered:

"Environmentalists" have wormed their way into education, politics, industry and religion. Under the guise of goodness,
they are poisoning our minds and picking our pockets as they systematically work to remove our freedoms.

Most of the publishing industry has gone to the PC, touchy-feely, dumb-'em-down LIBERAL dogs.

Scientific American hasn't been very 'scientific' for many years now, since the late 60's.

There will always be those predisposed to communism. At its core, environmentalism is a communistic concept. The good of all supercedes the needs of the individual. Think about it! I wish I could say that this is the last bastion in which the communists can take refuge, but the truth is that when we eventually defeat their illogic on environmental issues they will flee to some currently unimagined fortress from which to attack indivuals who truly advance the well being of us all.

Currently, they are enjoying some notable successes in demonizing corporations and entrepreneurs on these issues. It will not last. The property rights that are endangered will be their downfall, although many will suffer as a result, witness the Klamath Falls debacle of last year and still currently ongoing, in the end productive activity will outweigh unproductive activity because it puts money in the pockets of doers instead of money in the pockets of pointy headed do-gooders.

I don't think the average American citizen understands what signing up to Kyoto means. Here in the UK we are now starting to pay.

1. 5% "Climate Change Levy" on energy bills above a certain size for business. This started in April 2001.

2. From March 31st it is illegal to sell replacement or original glass windows that do not use "K" glass which it is claimed reflect heat back into buildings. Not only will this increase the costs of replacement windows by som 40% but all installers have to register costing £100's per annum.Plus there will be a levy of 1% on every installation to pay for insection by an army of regulators.

Failure to comply can result in fines up to £5,000.

If a private citizen wishes to install or replace a damaged window, they will have to pay £30 to get planning permision and to pay to have the work checked.

These initial regulations allow a lower standard of insulation than the EC and it is intended the higher EC standards will soon be introduced.

Nobody has explained why the European ice age led to a restreat of glaciers from where I am sat, when we were running around with spears and dressed in skins. probably it was the methane in their farts that rsulted in global warming and the end of the European ice age.

The wretched truth is you don't get research grants proving that global warming is a chimera.

I saw this blurb on EurekAlert:

Public Release: 13-Jan-2002 ET
 Nature
Pondering a climate conundrum in Antarctica
Antarctica overall has cooled measurably during the last 35 years – despite a global average increase in air
temperature of 0.06 degrees Celsius during the 20th century – making it unique among the Earth’s continental
landmasses, according to a paper published today in the online version of Nature.

I wanted to read the whole article, but the link to the NSF article brings up a "file not found" error page.
Could you tell me what happened with the article?

Friendly fascism in practice, at least they don't shoot people, yet.

Indeed. First it was the "plight" of the workers; then it was "workplace safety"; then it was "consumerism"; now it's the "environment"; and of course "the children"; and tomorrow it will be whatever idiotic ideology they think will sweep them into power. But you can always tell what's going on because their alleged "solution" to the "crisis" is always the same: more taxes and more controls. One size solution fits all problems.
