Judicial Watch, the public interest law firm that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, today called for the appointment of a special counsel to investigate the Enron collapse and any contacts Enron may have had with members of the Bush and Clinton Administrations. The special counsel is required to investigate contacts between Enron Chairman Kenneth Lay and Vice President Cheney, Treasury Secretary Paul ONeil, and Commerce Secretary Donald Evans.
The Bush Justice Department, despite the recusal of John Aschroft, is hopelessly conflicted in investigating White House and Cabinet-level contacts with Enron representatives. A special counsel can begin to assure the American people that a thorough investigation is conducted, stated Judicial Watch Chairman and General Counsel Larry Klayman.
Judicial Watch has several outstanding Freedom of Information Act requests concerning Enron. Judicial Watch represents a number of Enron shareholders and is contemplating legal action on their behalf.
Interestingly, Enron is also a prominent player in the Clinton-era fundraising scandal in which Commerce Department trade mission seats were sold in exchange for political contributions. Enrons Kenneth Lay, a Clinton donor, went on one of these scandalous trade missions with the late Ron Brown to India in January, 1995 and received hundreds of millions of dollars of aid from the Clinton Administration for its energy projects in India. Enron even attempted to enter into joint ventures with John Huangs Lippo Group (a Chinese intelligence front operation, according to government reports) as a result of the Clinton Administration trade trips.
Enrons Kenneth Lay was a major donor to the Bush campaign. Lo and behold, it is reported he calls up Don Evans, Commerce Secretary and former Bush fundraiser, to ask that the government intervene with a private ratings service to help Enron. This contact in particular seems improper on its face and deserves an independent investigation, stated Judicial Watch Chairman and General Counsel Larry Klayman.
Having said that, the campaign finance scandals that the campaign finance task force was supposed to investigate was not a campaign finance "problem" but has a matter of corruption and criminal behavior. Bush/Ashcroft simply dropped the ball on corruption here.
True, but that was akin to a band-aid relief team going after a symptom/sore while the disease/cancer is not addressed at all. Long ago I realized that no one in government is going to go after the disease/cancer. But I do know of a few businesses that understand and are working on a solution/cure.
I may write an article based on the "theory" that government has been supplanted by an organized crime syndication. I've collected several FReeper identifications that support the "theory". It seems to be something that many here have insight to but either didn't put the pieces together or thought it to outlandish to suggest.

There is not enough political balls on the repub side, and too much horsepower on the dim side to do this.
Not to mention the missing documents, "I don't recall", intimidated & disappearing witnesses . . .
There's d@mn few things I'd love more than seeing the Slick-willie & the bi+ch who shall remain nameless behind bars.
But face it folks, it ain't gonna happen. You're looking at teflon-coated OJ Simpson.
From here:
"Instead, the Commerce Department engaged in a cover-up of the secret meetings with the CSPP and Podesta Associates employees at the White House. No notification was issued for the secret meetings, nor for the classified materials offered to any other company.
Nor is John Podesta the only top Clinton official involved in potential criminal activity with super-computers and Ron Brown. According to documents provided by the Commerce Department, White House official Robert Rubin, and U.S. Trade Rep. Ambassador Charlene Barshefsky were both involved in policy meetings with the CSPP. A May 1994 "CONFIDENTIAL" letter to Ron Brown, partially withheld by the Commerce Department, states the CSPP held a meeting with Brown, Robert Rubin and "Amb. Barshefsky" where super-computer exports to China and Russia were discussed.
However, Rubin was soliciting campaign donations from CSPP members at the same time. In November 1994, DNC million dollar donor Sanford Robertson wrote a letter to President Clinton, thanking him for the August 1994 trade trip to China and he included a "P.S." about Robert Rubin.
Robertson wrote to Clinton the smoking gun of Chinagate, a letter directly implicating the President in trade trips in exchange for money. The Robertson letter states, "PS - Bob Rubin came to our home on Thursday for a Dianne Feinstein dinner, which raised over $100,000 for her campaign. Bob, of course, turned out the financial community and Silicon Valley."
Ron Brown's Indonesia trip
"Another major part of U.S. taxpayer financing for the Paiton project was obtained through the EXPORT-IMPORT bank (EXIM). Several of the Indonesian projects listed in the Commerce document note that EXIM head Ken Brody worked closely with Brown on Indonesia financing. Ken Brody is also a close friend of Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin. Rubin worked with Brody during his years at the investment firm Goldman Sachs.
Furthermore, the EXIM bank under Brody financed over $4 billion dollars worth of gas deals with another energy company, Enron. Enron is also an Akim/Gump client. In fact, Enron executives traveled with Ron Brown in 1994 on trade missions to Russia, Indonesia and China, cutting EXIM and OPIC backed deals in each country. Enron is not only another Akin/Gump client but it is listed as one of forty-four such companies in which Rubin had "significant contact" with during his years at Goldman Sachs."
Hooligans, scofflaws, cover-ups, secret meetings, destruction of evidence, funny money, no accountability, audit shams, bribes, receiving money for doing nothing.....
Hey, Robert Rubin qualifies to replace Alan Greenspan.
"The Three Marketeers"
We offer as "Exhibit A" the Time magazine cover story for February 15, 1999, which must surely rank as one of the most extraordinary propaganda and disinformation pieces of this decade, if not of this century. Along with the headline, "The Committee to Save the World," the cover featured the beaming visages of Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan, then- Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin, and Deputy Treasury Secretary (now Treasury Secretary) Lawrence Summers, with this riveting subtitle: "The inside story of how the Three Marketeers have prevented a global economic meltdown so far."
