One thing people need to get through their heads is that a teachers union is not some sort of altruistic group that is just looking out for the children. No, it is a union. A union looks supports the goals of the leadership, whatever those goals might be.

Teachers would not need unions if local officals treated them fairly. Most teachers belong to unions because of their fear of being sued and not making a livable wage.Besides this most dedicated teachers put in 12-14 hours per day.I know because I live with one.As a younger person I thought teachers had it made and in a lot of cases they did because they were respected more and had more control over their classrooms along with more children having a mother and father in the home. The problem prevailing in America today comes from our morals having hit rock bottom and we care more about protecting the criminal than the innocent. And liberal Democrats as well as Republicans have chosen to dismantle every value that made our country great! To find the problem just look at your elected officials and all these one parent families.

A union looks supports the goals of the leadership, whatever those goals might be. And a lot of them (especially out in the suburbs) absolutely hate it when you call them a "union". They like to call themselves a "professional association".
A year or two ago, a teacher (ahem, I mean "educator" - they prefer that too) complained to the local newspaper here about it being called a "union". Suprisingly, the paper stuck to its guns and continues to call them a union.
Now, in the cities, especially in the Northeast, they don't care if you call it a union. I remember a rally in Philly a few years ago with a hall full of teachers chanting "union, union, union".
