Frequent updates of virus definitions are required! The bad guys are persistent. A great source for security is grc.com this guy is the best geek in the world.

Your setup sounds very similar to mine. Check out Linklogger ; it monitors your Linksys router appliance and logs inbound connection attempts and outbound connections it/you deem suspicious. Very good, interesting stuff. Recommended.
