Thank God we don't get all the government we pay for. (Will Rodgers, I think)
Great quote, I'll bet you're right, sure sounds like him. Common sense- such a breath of fresh air these days.

Exerpt: " The chat rooms of the popular conservative rant site, Free Republic, are filled with complaints about Linda Daschle's business dealings, a sign that conservatives are paying attention.

Notice that all conservative sites are minimalized as 'rant' sites or 'tabloid' sites?

Big Media Lies!!

CNNNBCCBSABCAOLTIMENEWSWEAKLATIMESWASHPOSTNYTIMES... are getting more and more irrelevant.

Tom Daschle's Hillary problem has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with his wife. Daschle's Hillary problem is Hillary Rodham Clinton.

I agree in one respect. It's obvious that Puff has been given the job of nasty, nipping little dog to bite and bite at Bush until he draws enough blood to drain away some of Bush's popularity. If Puff is unsuccessful in this, he will have damaged his own soft-spoken, "reasonable" image while Hillary stands in the wings, cheering him on and getting nary a scratch herself.

If Bush retains very high favorability ratings such that a run against him is suicidal, I expect Hillary to run as VP to whomever she can con into running as Pres. Puff, Edwards, or whoever--will be plied with extreme flattery and maybe promises of enough vote fraud that they may be stupid enough to go for it. She gets credit for running, but, since she's not the front guy, it won't be her fault they lost and she's first in line for 2008 when Bush can't run again.

If South Dakota manages to get legislation passed that prevents Puff from running for both the Presidency and Senate, I don't think he's stupid enough to risk the power he already has unless he thinks he's weakened Bush enough to have a real chance.

That's when poor old Puff is in real danger from Hillary and I think he IS too stupid to realize that. If there's a pretty good chance that a 'Rat could win (with enough vote fraud), I sure don't expect Hillary to wait until 2012 when her front man will have served his 8 years.

In that case either a) before the primaries she'll cut the legs off Puff or anybody else in her way to take the top slot on the ticket or b) after the election expect a terrible accident, disease, or lone gunman to promote her fairly promptly IMO.

In the meantime he's taking all the risks in yipping and snipping at a VERY popular President. He knows there'll be no retaliation from certain prominent "Republican" Senators whose wives are also feeding at the government controlled trough, but Laura Bush is a very welcome contrast to all of that. I expect there will be retaliation and I expect the destruction of those documents will play a very big part. The parallels of Hillary and Mrs. Daschle will be pointed out.

I think there are a lot of liberals who, post 9/ll, are somewhat shaken in their support of the terrorist-aiding-and-abetting Clintons. In a way they may attempt to atone for their own complicity in keeping the destructive Clintons in power by piling on in attacking a surrogate. Maybe. One can hope.

Coincidence?
I highly doubt it. From the cut of your hair, the condition of your teeth, fingernails - manicured or not, shoes - brand/shine, clothing...any number of things can point to a financial aspect in life. If you don't have these "finer" things it is always a snub to point them out in the manner in which this author, and "Sen. Thang" do. It is their intent to remind others of their "lowliness" while accentuating their "prominence".
While a man in bib overalls and work boots is less likely to really care what someone has donned, or how they appear, the "keepers of social graces" almost always tend to "remind".
O' cose, po' folks ken alwa's get dem teef yanked and get denchas, if'n dey can a'fowd it dat iz.
Some things are less attributable to "financial station". Some things even braces can't fix and require the breaking of the jaw, which is sometimes an untenable action. An overbite and underbite, at the same time for instance, are one of those things.
And if you can afford a (roughly) $50,000 operation for a chocleal implant, like Rush got, you'll be able to hear too. Otherwise...tough sh luck.
You deal with it and go on, making accomodations to adapt.

among Linda Daschle's clients is American Airlines, which has had six fatal crashes since 1994 (not even including the World Trade Center flights). The airline has incurred thousands of dollars in federal fines for a host of safety violations, and its employees have been caught in embarrassing drug smuggling stings. Even as its planes have crashed, American has lobbied for years to water down safety and security regulations that might have helped foil the World Trade Center attacks. Yet thanks in part to lobbying efforts by Daschle---and support from her husband---American Airlines got a free pass in the recent airline bailout bill, escaping most legal liability for the hijackings and getting $583 million in cash grants---taxpayer money it will never have to repay.

So now , instead of a vibrant air transportation system blessed with safety and economy for long-range public transportation, Americans are treated to a cameo Police-state at air terminals, reclassified as a populace of potential bombers, and hamstrung with regulations which will cripple the industry --while creating nothing but a false sense of security.

Senate, which she strictly does not lobby.

How cute. Does the reporter believe (or want us to believe) that members of the other house or Executive Departments won't be aware of how powerful her pillow-mate is in Washington politics? Or is this the vehicle to make sure they all know.?

I forget....has a sitting senator ever won the presidency? In any event, it's rare as hen's teeth.

No matter how the media salivates, and tries to gen up a real hot presidential primary for the democrats, (anything to take attention away from President Bush's high poll numbers), it's not going to happen. Tom Daschle isn't about to sacrifice his powerful senate seat, or subject his lovely lobbyist Linda to close scrutiny. Democrats wouldn't permit him to do it anyway.

Since my guess is as good [as bad] as anyone elses, I predict Democrats are going to throw up war hero John Kerry of MA, link him with Edwards of NC, and hope for the best. Kerry's got 4 million or so, in the bank, unlimited funds from the former Mrs. Heinz condiments, he's cashing in already on his military record, (he knows how important that will be up against Commander In Chief Bush), and Kerry wants it bad. (Don't confuse this sitting senator Kerry with the other one, former Senator Kerrey, the other war hero... from Nebraska... who's almost as irrelevant these days, as Al Gore.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

I'd like to see folks in Congress be paid a salary commensurate with their responsibilities and the country's welfare under their leadership, and incarcerated for any "consulting" for outsiders.

***"Tom Daschle has demonstrated tremendous leadership skills since taking over as majority leader last spring, in a body where Democrats have a one-vote majority. Immensely popular, his stellar performance has Washington buzzing that Daschle will be a presidential contender in 2004."***

Already I can see that Tom Daschle has another problem, so-called journalists who are willing to distort the image of a particularly lousy and unpopular majority, by one spineless turncoat senator, senate leader.

Why are journalists compelled to add all of these glorious and unsubstantiated adjectives to their reporting? Let the reader decide if he is popular and performs in a stellar fashion.

If this happens with a GOP involved, don't the DIMocRATS call that "Corporate Welfare?". . .

Tom Daschle's Hillary Problem

When most people get engaged, they spend a few months talking to caterers, DJs, florists and the like in preparation for the big day. But when Linda Hall got engaged, she had to add another consultation to the prenuptial arrangements: a government ethics lawyer. Hall was about to marry Tom Daschle, who was then a young member of the House of Representatives running for re-election and who wanted his campaign to pay for Hall to accompany him on a South Dakota campaign trip. Normally, such a request wouldn't have been necessary, but Hall, a regional director for the now-defunct Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB), was barred as a federal employee from campaign activities by the Hatch Act. With a few caveats, the CAB ethics lawyers signed off on her trip, Daschle won the election, and the pair was married in 1984. Linda Hall Daschle's prenuptial ethics consultation would be the first of many she has sought over her 17 years as the working wife of a man who is now the most powerful Democrat in Washington. And the ethical questions woven into their marriage have gotten more complex as both Daschles have grown in power and stature in Washington---he as a senator and she as a high-powered lobbyist.

Puff Daschle in 2004?? Interesting article. . .

"eventually the media will stop asking these pesky conflict-of-interest questions."

"Lawyers advised her to fully disclose her activities and not to lobby her spouse, his office or committees. So that's what she's done."

"And in case her clients forget who she's married to, behind her desk is a giant framed print of the U.S. Senate insigne."

The RATS know how to handle this kind of thing without putting it in writing or having to communicate verbally.

Of course, she never talks to Tommie about these things either. - He has ESP and things just HAPPEN to get done because of his wife's terrific lobbying ability!!
