A day in the life of President Bush (photos): 1/5/02

On what can be seen as firing a shot across the bow of partisan Democrats, President Bush sent a strong and clear message to Washington and the American people that the economy must not fall victim to the DC standard of gridlock. Bush made it clear in his town hall meeting in Ontario, California, that the economy is the biggest issue to solve in the next year, other than the continuing war on terror. The President tackled questions ranging from the war on terror, to the economy, education, and even fashion. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya!

I just watched the speech for the second time and it was just as good as the first. He was really fired up in California, great speech.

I love the fourth photo in post 3. Looks like W is singing. I wonder what he'd be singing, if he could sing?

I was so proud of the president today. I thought he did a terrific job. I saw only a clip of the Oregon townhall, but it seemed like he kind of toned down the "over my dead body" talk on taxes. I wonder if those words kind of slipped out in the morning meeting and he regretted it. The phrase calls to mind "read my lips..." and what that particular phrase ultimately portended.

Was Bush speaking without the benefit of a teleprompter during the speech portion of the Townhall? It sure didn't look like he was using one. I like him much better without it - he's so much more natural.

I'm staying up late, keeping my sick hubby company. Besides, we both have jetlag. So, it is a thrill to be an early poster to the Daily Dose. I saw part of his speech today and it was rousing! The crowd really responded to Dubya. He had me cheering as well. The speech was a perfect antidote to the poison of Dickwitt Daschle. And, how devastated old Tom must be that he is just not cool and Dubya is. Great photos!

Thanks, rintense. I listened to parts of the two speeches. He is becoming a good public speaker.

There were two points that need repeating by many and often. The first, was "it is time for the people in Washington to think of their country first and their party second." The second, was adamant refusal to accept that raising taxes would result in in economic growth --he could have added, that if raising taxes maintained growth, Rome would still rule the world.

Excellent, excellent, excellent!

I am only able to come across your wonderful threads periodically. Is there any way I can be added to your bump list?

Thank-you for making my evening!

To my mind, this is a highly misguided post. Oddly, the adulation of individuals -- sports, political, academic, literary, theatrical, whatever -- has the effect of undermining individual freedom and individuality itself.

It will always happen, and there is nothing necessarily wrong with it. But as a practical matter, it is senseless and illogical.

I revere Ronald Reagan. I am so thankful for him. One of the reasons I revere him is, he recognized the danger of adulation.

W has turned out to be an amazingly good leader. But W is admirable b/c he recognizes that he is an historic accident, and b/c he has brought true American values to the totally gratuitous opportunity he has been given.

Giving him movie star status feeds into the debasement of American culture. True conservatism -- meaning the conservatism I espouse (lol) -- wants to dampen the cult of the famous.

Thank you, r intense.

Does anyone know anything about a rumor someone lifted the plaque with the presidential seal that they hang on his podium?

And we all loved Doug from Upland's remarks and question. Did anyone see a still picture of him? He was taking ?chid? who had a digital camera, so if anyone sees a thread with Doug's pictures, link us, please.
