The Protestants living there didn't all get off either, even many landed ones-including the Cleburnes, who were fairly well to do, with some land-land which they lost. The fact that the senior Cleburne, while a firm Protestant, stood up to the Catholic Codes (along with many other Irish Catholics) may have been merely incidental...
The poor Irish-a shame they couldn't do what my Scottish kinfolk of ages past did when the English eyed Scotland-taught em that numbers aint everything!
