Hey NYC GOP Chick...do we have the honor of your presence on 2-2-02.....We'll be there -- with my digital camera, in my Official Photographer position. :-D

Great - we will have dueling digital cameras;-) Composing Thread III now and will post in an hour or two - we need to keep this bumped and primed to go. Bringing a boom box and will have plenty of patriotic as well as pipe music to last us through the rally - that said - are you all okay with the bagpipes? For some of us they are quite energizing and keep the juices flowing.

from http://NY1.com NYPD Preparing For Protestors At World Economic Forum In Manhattan
[USEMAP]
JANUARY 11TH, 2002
The NYPD is preparing for a wave of protestors expected in the city at the end of the month for the World Economic Forum. The forum is scheduled to be held at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Midtown Manhattan from January 31 to February 4.
If recent World Economic meetings in Genoa, Italy, Quebec and Seattle are any indication, New York is likely to attract thousands of demonstrators. The international trade meetings have become a target of often violent demonstrations against big business and the impact on living standards overseas.
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly says special training will help NYPD officers to control the crowds effectively. "It'll provide us with some challenges as far as enforcement and traffic control, but believe me, we're very capable of handling that. It's primarily over a weekend, so we'll try and keep that to a minimum," Kelly said Thursday.
As a precaution, Kelly says you can expect traffic to be restricted as a "frozen zone" is set up around the Waldorf during the forum.

Anyone want to bet how long it will take before the National Guard is called in?
The Waldorf is on 50th and Park. I have this image of 1000 black clad anarchists closing down everything from Grand Central to the 54th street. For some reason, the police are letting the protestors have a zone.
PERMITTED DEMONSTRATION AGAINST THE WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 2:
9 am: "Meet 'em and Greet 'em" (let the exploiters hear your voice)
11 am: Mass Rally IN FRONT OF WALDORF ASTORIA HOTEL (50th St. and Park Ave., NYC)
Even better, our Police Commisioner is Ray Kelley, the guy who handled Crown Hieghts so well.
Maybe I'm over reacting, but we have all seen pictures from Seattle. Even in Washington, where the police did a good job of limiting the situation, large parts of GWU's campus were damaged and a shop was looted. (Rich white radicals looting the store of Vietnamese immigrants in the name of 3rd world and immigrant rights.)
As a student at Columbia, I have special concerns.
The radicals are running the operation out of Columbia and will be holding events there.
The admin has accepted this and a number of faculty are helping the radicals.
I really hope this will not be 1968 again. I'm trying to get some student reponse to this together, but we may need outside help, given the complicity of the admin.

BUMP. I'll be there in the defense of capitalism and the USA! I also like reminding peacescum that they are cowards.

Good points in #184; why don't you post it over on
Thread III?
One thing to remember is that the National Guard is already here (nyuk-nyuk :D) and the city might change their minds about the IAC's location and proximity to the Waldorf as easily as they might about ours.
If you run a conservative club at Columbia, please urge them to join us--the more the merrier.

1. What do you mean if? I may be stepping down soon for an underclassman, but I still run it.
2. We will probably be busy up at Columbia impeding the commies for most of the weekend. Some members might come by for the protest.
What is with all the threads?

BUMP and three cheers for Operation Infinite FREEP

I thought I remembered you saying somewhere else that you ran a club at Columbia, but wasn't sure, so I was hedging. Interfere with those idiots any way you can, but would love to see some young faces at the rally (to counterbalance the "seasoned" people like me).

OK. The problem with text, is that you can't hear tone.
Check my profile.

Some kids will be there. Right now, I'm looking for some pre-emptive legal council. I have no desire to be expelled or jailed for crossing some line.

What is with all the threads? A new one approximately once a week to bump this event up into the breaking news and to generate renewed interest. We do this for larger events and it works in attracting additional participants - at times, threads grow into personal discussions - which are great - but at the same time we need to refocus on the task at hand. Regardless, you and your compatriots from Columbia are welcome to stop by, your schedule and legal concerns permitting. Thank you for your conservative efforts.
