Bill O'Reilly blasts Ashcroft and Reno for Corruption
WorldNetDaily.com ^ | January 4, 2002 | Bill O'Reilly

Posted on 01/04/2002 8:52:30 AM PST by editor-surveyor

There is something very wrong inside the Justice Department of the United States and there has been for some time.

Various newspapers are now reporting that under President Clinton, the Federal Bureau of Investigation was ordered to stand down on various terrorist investigations.

One of the most egregious examples is the failure of the bureau to investigate fundraising organizations like "The Holy Land Fund," based in Arizona, which allegedly funneled millions of dollars in donations to Middle Eastern terrorists.

Although the Bush administration has now frozen the assets of the fund, it was apparently allowed to operate for 8 years despite the FBI intelligence that was presented to Mr. Clinton and then-Attorney General Janet Reno. One bureau source told the press that Ms. Reno felt any investigation of "The Holy Land Fund" would lead to anti-Arab sentiment and therefore was opposed to such an investigation.

As always, Ms. Reno will not comment on any aspect of her tenure as attorney general that is at all controversial.

There is no question now that under Ms. Reno and then-FBI Director Louis Freeh, Americans were put at great risk. The Wen Ho Lee-Chinese espionage case still has not been explained, and the fact that the 19 Sept. 11 terrorists weren't even on the FBI's radar screen is about as frightening as Janet Reno's passion for political correctness.

The current attorney general, John Ashcroft, has made no attempt to examine Ms. Reno's bizarre behavior or update the public about the Marc Rich investigation or anything else. Mr. Ashcroft specializes in looking dour and stonewalling. While Congress is attempting to get documents about President Clinton's dubious foreign fundraising and FBI abuses in Boston, Ashcroft is refusing to cooperate at all.

And this isn't a political issue. Conservative Congressman Dan Burton and liberal Congressman Barney Frank have actually joined forces to try and pry this information from Ashcroft's hands. If that's not amazing, then nothing is.

The truth is that for nearly 8 years, the Justice Department has been corrupt and inefficient. Janet Reno botched nearly every important decision she had to make including Waco and Elian Gonzalez. Time after time, Ms. Reno refused to approve investigative initiatives sought by the FBI. And time after time, Mr. Freeh sat in his plush government office refusing to let the American people know what was happening.

Now Mr. Ashcroft is doing the same thing. There is no reason on this earth why the public should not know the status of the Rich pardon probe. Or the anthrax investigation. And what about Enron, Mr. Attorney General – are you going to look into that? Millions of Americans were hosed while some Enron executives made millions.

How about a comment on that, Mr. Ashcroft?

Here is the whole article.

FR in general, I guess. - There are few here who are not polarized, one way or the other on that issue.

The vast majority of "us" do NOT believe that the Bush administration is covering up for Bill Clinton.

That IS what you said, isn't it?

Do you believe President Bush is covering for Clinton, Howlin?

If not who is he covering for?

It must be next to IMPOSSIBLE getting anything accomplished; which, makes working within the JD just as tricky as ALL the other departments noted in the other thread!!

~Perhaps even moreso!

These ignoramous quisling Leftist weasels are permeating our entire infrastructure; regardless what department we're speaking of.

I am trying to understand what you are saying.

Do you think GW is impotent, and can do nothing about what is going on in his own administration?

Carenot, thanks for your replies on this thread.

We cannot rely on either party or the mainline media to ever teel us the complete story about Clinton and the Bushes and the FBI and the DOJ etc. We must rely on good people like you and rubbertramp to keep people informed and the debate on the front burner.

Someday because of efforts from you and rubbertramp we will get a less corrupt government. In the meantime people like you and rubbertramp are a restraining force and a preservative to keep the rot from getting worse.

Keep digging and hammering.

Pragmatism is ugly. - It is a two-bit word for the far left's guiding principle (or lack thereof): The end justifies the means.

Is that what you really meant?

No. I wonder how those who witnessed the past three decades of judicial, legislative and media circuses can ask why we don't spend these years following Clinton...going after Clinton. And wouldn't that be Clinton's fondest dream...lights, camera, press sycophants and corrupt pols, historians, pundits, Professors, judges and Hollywood?

Ashcroft is a good man, in the old-fashioned sense of the word. He knows the law and will follow the law. He not only has a conscience, but he actually believes he is accountable to someone bigger than any of us. Makes him easy fodder for those looking for a scapegoat, but he is a strong man, and a good man. Anyone demanding a Congressional investigation, a political investigation in DC, of the Clintons is asking for the end of the Republican party. A simple fact. John Ashcroft and President Bush have more courage than the average American will ever understand. You think John Ashcroft doesn't want the Clinton criminals brought to justice? The man has more intimate knowledge and grounds to go after these folks than any of us can know. The American people can do something to help our very busy administration - research and write the Clitnon/Reno legacy. History will not be written solely by the left this time...and pray because it is a miracle that George Bush is President, John Ashcroft is AG and we still have people outside the beltway that understand the stakes we face and the odds against us without help from above.

You found the Clinton impeachment, a sham; the indictment of Zacarias Moussaoui, unlawful; federal tax evasion, acceptable behavior; and you consider a 30-day stay of execution, by a "new" US AG, towing the Clinton line. It appears you don't have a clue either bucko.

From your remarks, it's quite clear, you support an agenda that has nothing in common with either mainstream America, or mainstream conservatism. You're an easily recognizable extremist, floating on the fringe of American political reality. So be it.

Like I said earlier, ... you're anti-Bush, anti-Ashcroft, anti-religous freedom, anti-Republican and anti-conservative too. I still consider your remarks un-American and you still sound like a liberal Democrat, a libertarian anarchist, or some [other] form of dangerous subversive nut case.

You're free to try to shut me up any time you think you're able. FRmail me and I'll give you directions to my house.

LMAO!

I don't get back east to often anymore, but if you're ever in Colorado Springs, look me up punk.

It has been strange watching the new administration tip-toe around all these unanswered questions.

Nah! That ain't tip-toing, that's tape dancing.

Well then, I'll agree with you! Ashcroft & Co. have been busy with more important matters since 9/11.

I will agree that they have been busy with more important matters since 9/11.

I am wondering why they took time out from the more important matters to fight with Dan Burton over turning over documents he requested.

...now our POTUS may promply bend-down to kiss his butt g'bye, eh?

Why should we spin our wheels on past issues which will have no chance for resolution. If congressional cooperation is required, will Dashole even put this on the Senate agenda? Do you see the mess we'll be in if the press spins any investigation to the detriment of Bush's economic agenda?

You're right.
Nothing to see here
Move along.

"I'd like to hear someone in the present Administration say something about Waco and Ruby Ridge, myself."

You just hit on the two worst disgraces of the century in my estimation, but I have never heard W or any of his top guys mention them. I won't hold my breath, I won't ever forget either.

You don't know how very much I have been hoping that 43's administration is busily compiling reams and reams of irrefutible facts to present about these dimwits!

I wish that were true.

It seems they are too busy trying to stop Congress from investigating.

The anti-Bush crowd must be getting nervous about the upcoming State of the Union Speech. You know, the one, nudge, nudge, where Bush makes them totally irrelevant. LMAO.

The Clintons are basicly irrelavant right now, and I for one, would like to keep them that way.

Not me, I would like to see them in one of GWB's tribunials.

"On the other hand, if Clinton was guilty of even one of the many egregious things he's been accused of (my personal belief is he's guilty of all), then the Republicans who were in power should have convicted him after impeachment, or impeached him on many other things. At the very least, failing this due to lack of information, the investigation should have continued. The fact that this didn't happen is also damning, and the fact that Ashcroft appears to be obstructing further attemtps to get to the truth is even more damning. "

Two words:

"Trent Lott".

This is small consolation to those families whose loved ones died on that terrible day.

You are right.

Lies are no consolation to anyone. EVER.
