A pilot only needs ONE reason. "Because I said so."

I am a pilot (private), and you and I and a very few others at FR seem to be the only ones who seem to get it. All the rest is clutter. The pilot in command has the final say in anything regarding the operation of an aircraft, PERIOD. He can be as arbitrary as he wants.

By the way, my wife and I run our household the same way. It seems to work.

I'm a private pilot too, and my Jeppesen FAR manual defines the "Pilot in Command" as - The pilot responsible for the operation and safety of an aircraft during flight time.

Any issue brought to his attention that may effect the outcome of the flight belongs soley to the pilot. The pilot has the final say because of accountability, the same as in maritime law and the captain's decision being the law aboard ship because of his accountability.

I agree. The pilot has the last word. He is the boss of that aircraft, and this is the way it should be.
