We have already seen where such isolationism leads us (WWI, Pearl Harbor, etc), and it ain't pretty. Sad to say, the world does need a policeman. Our military is the only insulation that we have against tyranny.
The sentiment of Washington and the other founding fathers was that the military should be called upon only when the USA is directly threatened by an enemy. There was a profound reason for this position, namely the fact that history shows that war results in lots of corpses abroad and the loss of freedoms at home.
Perhaps you should keep that in mind.

As someone rightly pointed out earlier in this thread, the Founders couldn't have contemplated a world in which you can cross the ocean in hours and completely annihilate another nation with a nuclear device. The fact of the matter is that threats come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. We have to be cognizant of both direct and indirect threats, as well. For example, one threat may not immediately affect us but may increase the likelihood that we will be placed in future danger. We can't close our eyes to that reality. Perhaps you should keep that in mind.
