With the FBI issuing alerts, what should American's do to protect themselves? We have all heard that we should be observant and report strange events to the police. In the last weeks, other things have been added to the list, such as be careful of letters with powdery substances. Yet, one option has not been encouraged. News articles mention the large increase in gun sales that have taken place since Sept. 11, but fail to mention the benefits and belittle those who buy the guns. We could learn something about responding to terrorism from Israel, and encourage more ordinary, responsible citizens to carry guns.

I imagine you grow nice fat mushrooms in that basement. You have demonstrated that you have an ample supply of fertilizer.
You stated that your opinion on guns does not make you a liberal. I would argue that it well defines your liberalism. You don't trust your fellow citizens to know to do right when it comes to self-defense. Your type doesn't trust them with any decision making. To you, they are "morons" who need big daddy government to protect them from every evil, including themselves.
Think I am wrong? If you were not a liberal, you would applaud those who choose to exercise their God given right to self-defense.
The area I grew up. 1 murder. 2 years. It was a stab. Lots of guns. No school shooting.
I'll take where I'm from to Canada any day of the week.
I don't know if it makes you a Liberal, but it sure eliminates you from being a Conservative or Libertarian.
Probably just makes you someone who has an irrational fear of guns. And a narrow-minded one at that.
I am praying that my Canadian brothers will engage in massive civil-disobedience and turn the country around. Until that time I will remain in the less than perfect but better than any nation on the face of the earth USA.
Not because of your stance on gun control, because of your comparisons of America to Canada and your corresponding error in reasoning that Canada is better off because of their gun control. Canada does not have lower murder rate as a result of their gun control, it's from other factors.
California, Colorado, Michigan pre CCW - Strict gun laws.
Should we accept that quietly?
It's already illegal for kids to buy guns, so it's not a gun problem. It's a people problem. It's the Shooter's fault.
Are they casualties of freedom?
No, but a casuality of a piss poor school system. Guns are banned in schools BTW.
Is that the price we have to pay?
For poor school systems, yes.
We look like a bunch of morons promoting people every people carrying guns.. Makes no sense and it gives a false sense of security...
States will shall issue CCW laws has less shootings. It's a fact. If you want strict guns laws, go to Washington DC. Leave me alone.
The facts are on my side. I don't look like the moron here. The morons are people like Dan Thomasson in the other article.
False sense of security. If you don't trust me with a firearm, why should I trust you with voting??
I do consider it America-bashing when people consistently try to compare the U.S. with other countries to point out a negative. This is the greatest country in the world, even with all the bad things that go on. The good definately outweighs the bad.
One of the great things here is our freedom of speech guaranteed by our 1st Amendment. This allows people to say great things about one country while criticizing the U.S. Keep in mind that our 1st Amendment would not be as strong today if it wasn't for our 2nd Amendment.
If my reply was too strong, take it back to DU.
Yes, several in the past year. In each instance, only the proprietor was in the store with the robber. In one, the owner was shot to death. In two, the perp(s) cleaned out the gun cases.
