President Reagan talked about this very topic in his June 15, 1977 radio address, on pp.318-20 of Reagan In His Own Hand.

In 1920, we were told we'd be out of oil in 15 years.

In 1939, we had a 13 year supply.

In 1977, we had a 30 year supply.

There is undoubtably still a lot of oil out there.
