Dick Cheney due to health reasons decides to withdrawl his name from the ticket in 2004 after a very successful term as Vice President. He figures he can still stay close to the President and advise him in any way possible, but not have to deal with the every day hustle of being the Vice-President of the country. So who would President Bush pick to be his new VP? I think Condi Rice would be a wonderful choice but I dont know if this country (especially the Republican Party) is ready for a VP who is black, a woman, and from the South (Alabama). I also love Powell but would he and Pres Bush be able to work hand in hand as P-VP? Donald Rumsfeld is a terrific Sec of Defense and I think he would make a great President one day...maybe him being VP could lead us to 8 great years of a Rumsfeld Presidency after 8 great years of Bush. Other candidates that come to mind would be Tom Ridge, Liddy Dole, Ashcroft, and dare i say it...JOHN MCCAIN ( i know, i know, but i think the Bush-MCcain ticket would be a shoe in). My pick would have to be Rice, she is worth her weight in Gold. She is a genius, works well with Bush, and would really be great for the country. And what would the naysayers say after Bush nominates a black woman to be his right hand WOMman?? I think they would just have to throw up the white flag! GO DUBYA!
1. He has instant, positive name recognition and reputation
2. He has experience as a Chief Executive and prosecutor
3. He would probably carry some New England states for GW
4. He's available and looking.
5. He would complete the sharp contrast to Hildabeast and her running mate.
Possible downsides:
1. His health issues
2. His personal life
3. His persona in potential conflict w/Bush's
Now there's a thought. Walter Williams would be a terrific choice! His ability to explain economics in a simple, interesting and very funny way could go a looooonnnnnng way towards reducing the size of government. I also love his ideas on education.

Look, I will make it as plain as I can.. and I am typing slow so you (and the rest of the pinhead brigade) can keep up.
The Gop, the Crats, the Libertarians and any/every other political party do not have votes. Period.
People have votes. If I choose not to vote for someone, or to go fishing that's my right.
Alot of people assume the GOP deserves my vote because I am a self described Conservative, but I am Conservative for a reason and it has alot less to do with tax cuts (although that's part of it) than it has to do with moral/ethical issues such as abortion. You see, I am a Social Conservative. My politics are an extension of my religion, and there are alot of others who feel the same way.
Contrary to what you might think, it's not my job to be loyal to a candidate or to a party. It's their job to win my trust and confidence.. and my vote.
I pay attention and I follow political issues carefully, if I don't vote for the GOP's top guy, it's his own fault. Not mine.
And I vote Pro-Life.
True, but this issue is SOOOO far down on the list of importance that it pales. We need to fix a number if other critical issues first and then, I believe, the social issue of abortion will cure of its own accord.

For President and Vice President, I think it does, so do many. The question here in this sub-thread is what will strong pro-life people will do should there be a candidate for these offices who is not pro-life. This is a decision which WE will make, in the light of our own consciences -- you have no vote in the matter of what we will do. You might try to convince us to change our minds, but I doubt that you will succeed.
Time to join the anti-government types in that case. (see my post 161.)
If the country becomes a place were abortion is a settled issue, and there is not a political place for pro-life people, then the country SHOULD die.
Actually on the issue you keep harping on, you and Jeffords were too peas in the same pod. You want a 'final solution' for pro-life conservatives, he wanted a 'final solution' for pro-life conservatives. He failed and left the party in disgust, you will also fail, and leave the party also. You can't win, because the number of people who will leave the party should you prevail is larger than those who will leave the party if it does not change. The Karl Rove people know this, which is why they are courting the pro-life people now.
It is number one on my list, and that of many others. There is nothing you can do to change that, unless you want to join SentryoverAmerica, and put the pro-life crowd in the political crematoria.
