I struggled with using that term, believe me.

Did I say that that was a fact or did I simply make an observation?

I am sorry, but your statement that something well known to be false was in fact true left me hoping that you were trying to provide evidence for your statement. Sorry about that -- but if someone tries to tell me the world is flat, I will reasonably try to see if they offer evidence (not that I would waste a lot of time on that). I have been receptive to the possibility that you have evidence to support your judgement in this matter. It looks like you do not.

Highly talented, intelligent and articulate. Just not electable as President or VP.

Likewise for Buchanan.

I actually thought of a whole long list of unelectable candidates when I wrote that.

Buchanan was at the top of the list, then Pat Robertson, then Al Sharpton. I didn't dignify Jesse Jackson with a thought, but the same applies to him, too.

But he also knows that no matter how bad he offends the pro-life cause, he can rely on pro-life voters to vote for him. You may say I'm wrong, but the election results don't lie. Pro-life voters voted overwhelmingly for Bush and did not split between Bush and a more staunchly pro-life Pat Buchanan. Pro-life voters don't put their vote where their mouth is, and that's why the pro-life cause nevers gets addresseed. Republican candidates don't have to compete for pro-life votes. They go to the GOP candidate by default.

If pro-life Bush voters like myself had thought that he was not pro-life, and would not appoint pro-life Supreme Court nominees, they would not have voted for him. During the campaign, Bush was more pro-life than Buchanan, and since Pat had changed on so many issues over the years, his neglect of that issue left me more suspicious of him than Bush. I remain convinced that you are not presenting your honest position, but seek to drive pro-life Republicans out of the 'big-tent', to give you greater power within a dwindling GOP.

When it comes to politics, "black" is a state of mind; not skin color. White conservatives are much quicker to vote for a black conservative than blacks are to vote for a Republican. They've been brain-washed.

Bill Clinton vetoed a bill banning partial birth abortion. In principle he shouldn't have any say in the matter and neither should congress. However, we live in the world of "facts and logic" as you have repeatedly proported (but have yet to demostate) and the issue will come up. If possible I believe most people on FR would pick a strict constitutionalist who would leave R v. W to the courts over a strict pro-lifer who wouldn't, but in the real world, it is highly unlikely such a scenario would occur.

Incidentally, would you vote for someone who believed in gun control but was a strict constitutionalist who thought owning a gun shouldn't be a right, but would use an ammendment to overturn it?

I dont know if this country (especially the Republican Party) is ready for a VP who is black, a woman, and from the South

I'm sure you have already been flamed for this remark, but if not FLAME on YOU. If that black woman from the south is Condi Rice, you bet your ass I'll vote for her. (Twice if I could but I'm not a democrat!) I'd take Condi over Powell any day of the week. But if that black woman from the south is Mrs. Lee -- fahgettabouit! It's not the color of skin, or the sex, or the heritage. It's the content of character that reigns supreme.

I love Cheney but if it comes to a change, then Kasich would be perfect. Condi would be great but she doesn't have the legislative experience. She should remain as NSA. Kasich knows the people on the hill and how it all works and he will tell it like it is. Wonderful suggestion. If it isn't Bush/Cheney, I'll accept Bush/Kasich.

Kasich is the man for me, too! He'd be a good person to run after Bush finishes his two terms. I like Condi Rice, too, but have always liked Kasich.

Hey, my brother is a great catch. And I know where he stands on RKBA. Think I should send her his picture?

Seriously, I don't think it would matter in a VP. I don't think folks decide to vote for a president based on his running mate, but I do believe they may decide to vote against someone based on his running mate.

I admit I have not done a scientific study on this, nor commissioned a poll. In fact, it could work in her favour. Men might fantasize about sweeping her off her feet, single women could empathise with how difficult it is to find a good man, and we could even start a whispering campaign in the "gay community" that she had a crush on Jan Reno...

I got the exact very impression.

No, I think I have been fairly explicit in my position that, despite more than 40 years as a Republican activist, my loyalty, if that is the correct term, to the GOP is completely dependent on that party remaining pro-life.
