I have no idea where your wife worked or what state you are in, but in my state and several others where I have lived there are both state and private mental institutions.
There are also out-patient facilities with counseling, psychology, and psychiatry services. Psychiatrists often prescribe medication to non-resident patients--perhaps your wife worked in such a facility? The fact that there are disorders that are treatable on an out-patient basis does not preclude the fact that there are institutions that admit patients. The severity of the disorder and the rate of recovery dictate the length of a stay. Also, at least in the state's where I have knowledge, an institution can only hold a patient against their will for 24 hours and then only if the patient is deemed to present a danger to him/herself or others. In order to hold a patient longer, the facility must obtain an Order of Committment from a judge. Before a judge can issue this order he requires a hearing with a panel of experts, the patient, and representatives of the patient.

I'm with you philosophically -- hang in there and stick to your guns.

Courtesy of EODGUY....
We'll have to come up with a uniform for BRAAD members to wear. I'm thinking perhaps a white (well, grayish brown) sleeveless T-shirt with the mandatory Skoal dribble down the front, Wrangler (nothing vogue) straight-cut jeans and the ever-present wallet that protrudes from the right rear pocket and is connected to a chain attached to the wearer's belt, the buckle of which must be slid to one side of the waist or another (this would be up to the wearer) but definitely not centered.
Footwear....definitely no sandals, name-brand sneakers like Nike, New Balance or the like. I'm thinking in terms of an American-made steel-toed work boot, preferably yellow. The laces must definitely not match and must be broken in at least three places per lace.....extra credit if two completely different laces are used on each boot. Well, that's a start, I'll leave it to JMJ to devise what the guys should wear.... :)

I think the t-shirts should have a big confederate flag on them, with the words
The South Shall Rise Again! written in bold underneath it. The jeans should be dirty and worn out.
The song, FreeBird" by Lynard Skynard can be the official party song.

If you don't believe me. Go do some medical reseach yourself. You'll find that I am right. If you mean my statement that chormosomes are the most important determinant of a person's sex as opposed to your statement that hormones are more important than chromosomes--then here's my question to you and to medical science:
Does anyone lacking the Y chromosome ever grow testes that produce sperm containing Y chromosomes?
If not, then they are not male.
And if the scientific establishment disagrees with me about this--then the scientific establishment needs to rethink its definition of sex.

What you don't seem to understand is that DNA is the blue print, but hormones are the building blocks. Now, in sometimes the hormones produced in the womb ignores either XX or XY and creates the child into the opposite gender.

Actually yes. But it is rare. Most of the time the man is sterile.
If not, then they are not male.
You have a very shallow opinion of what it is to be a man. Why don't you include all males who are sterile.
And if the scientific establishment disagrees with me about this--then the scientific establishment needs to rethink its definition of sex.
Now that is a very arrogant statement. Your ego is beginning to show.

If you are a child of biracial parents, you are neither white nor black, or either white and black. In either case you are Biracial, which is what your race would be. If you are a male and have a penis, you are a MALE. If you are a female and have a vagina, you are a FEMALE. No amount of mental feeling can change that. I can wake up tomorrow and for the rest of my life feel like a woman, but the fact of the matter is biologically I am now, will be and always have been a MALE.

But if "he" has no penis and has female organs, then HE IS A "SHE"

and you should change your handle to "ICANNOTACCEPTOBVIOUSTRUTH"

WHERES THE BARF ALERT ?

I cannot honestly even believe that I am actually having a discussion with supposedly intelligent people, who are attempting to convince me and all the rest on my side here. That a human that has a penis, may actually not be a male. And a human that has a vagina, may really not be a female depending on how they feel mentally. I honestly thought that this was such obvious truth it would not, could not, even possibly be challenged. This shows how far some people would go to accept the abnormal as normal, under the banner of "tolerance".

There are absolutes in the world, good and evil, right and wrong, God and the devil, knowledge and ignorance.
But over the past 100 years, our understanding of the complexity of the human mind and body has let most people realize that not all things are black and white.
When it comes to human identity and personality, there is a lot of grey area.
In the end, it is the mind that defines the body, not the body that defines the mind.
You lack this realization.
Also, in your ignorance, your may not realize some interesting medical facts about criminals.
For example, most serial killers have genius IQs.
And, most pedophiles are heterosexual (straight), if you don't believe me, check out Court TV, the latest pedophile is a female teacher who molested her male students.

But if "he" has no penis and has female organs, then HE IS A "SHE"
In the case of the man whose gender was switched shortly after birth, "he" was born with a penis, but it was removed when "he" was turned into a female by his doctor and then "he" was raised as a girl by his parents. Was "he" a "he" or a "she"? "He" sure thought that "he" was a "he" as "he" grew up even though "he" didn't have a penis (but "he" was born with one), but since you seem to be the expert on gender identity, what was "he"?
And I'm still waiting for you to present credentials that show you understand the issue better than mental health professionals who actually do research.

The song, FreeBird" by Lynard Skynard can be the official party song. Actually, there will probably be a lot of official parties so we would need more than one song. You know how rednecks like to party. The most important choice will be the official party beer. Definately no micro-brew. If it isn't produced by the acre-foot per minute then we won't drink it. And you can forget about those panty-waist wine coolers.
Shalom.

By the way: This
is all good fun, but I'll bet that for every GLAAD press release we read we could create a BRAAD press release that is exactly the same but replaces homosexuality with bigotry. I am certain that the BRAAD press releases will make just as much sense and that the liberals would have no idea how to confront them.
Shalom.

I am ready for you to post the first BRAAD thread announcing a vote on the officers and other important things like choice of brew...We can do it just like "The Guild" except our graphics will be all things redneck.
Waiting anxiously! *g*
