I really don't understand why we didn't camp out 50,000 troops on the Pakistani and Iranian borders to catch any possible fleeing terrorists. I've never trusted the Pakistanis, especially the local Pashtuns on the border inside Pakistan who sympathize with Bin Laden.

Like Iran would put up with this hot potato for even ten seconds. Notice the Iranians have been very respectful of America since this whole retaliation thing for 9/11 came up. The sources say that bin Laden and close colleagues could have crossed into Iran using smuggling routes with the help of the Mujahideen-i-Khalq, and taken refuge in caves there that are said to be much more extensive and sophisticated than those of the Tora Bora.

Do you know how long the Pakistani and Iranian borders are with Afghanistan? Over 2,000 miles of rugged terrain. 50,000 men could barely cover that and they would be asking to be picked off in detail.
