Little girl in need of good thoughts and prayers

This is an e-mail that I recieved from my best friend in Texas, we served together in Turkey, and I love him dearly. One of his sons is named after me, and I am his daughters godfather.

This little girl needs all the good energy and prayers that you freepers can give her. She is in a world of hurt and it just breaks my heart that I can't be there in Texas for them at this trying time. Please read the following, I am leaving it totally unedited, I am hoping that by doing this, I am bringing as much energy to bear on this child as possible through all you wonderful freepers.

By now I'm sure everyone has heard all sorts of stories in all sorts of ways about my daughter and what we're going through right now! I had to come in tonight to take care of a few things around Cuero-way, and spend some time with my boys. What I went through today and the past few weeks I wouldn't wish on even the worst of enemies. Kathy is six years old for some of you who may not know us to well. She came down with a strange and so far, unknown virus the week of Thanksgiving. She's had vomiting, excrussive headaches, back, neck, & leg aches. We have been to San Antonio to a specialist and he performed an endoscopy on her last week to find that her throat, stomach, and intestines were full of ulcers. Saturday night she had stroke like symptoms and was transported to Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus Christi where she spent a few days in PICU. We were moved onto the floor in a regular room day before last. She has had initially the endoscopy and bi-opsies of her stomach and small intestine, a cat scan, mri/mra, two spinal taps (the second today), more sticks and pokes with the needle than a swarm of bees could give ya! So forth and so on... We are still in the fog about what is going on, they have brought in an infectious disease specialist to help, with his team, find out what is going on. Her white blood count is very high, she has pressure on the brain, her optic nerves in both eyes are swollen, the eeg showed abnormal brain waves on the left side of her brain and now they have ordered the second mri/mra series on her and a new set of cultures. The best we could get out of this new Dr. today was she has a fungus type of meningitis. It will take several days for him to determine which strand of the virus it is. Supposed to be hundreds of different types. Anyway, so we are still not certain as to the why's and what for's yet. The wait and watching her suffer are a tremendous stress, to be so helpless in a situation which we can only give to God and pray about! I wanted you to hear it straight from me and right now that is the best and most I can tell you all. She is in room 705 at Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus Christi, TX. Keep us in your prayers -friends! God is the most awesome healing power and I have faith we will get to the bottom of this and get her treated and back on her feet. Just noticed this thread tonight. Would like to know how little Kathy is doing. I pray that the doctors have come up with a solution and that Kathy will fully recover. Lord, surround Kathy with your light and love, and your mighty healing power. We see her whole and well, in Jesus name. Amen

Hey gang, I had to go back to work. I missed two weeks of work in the past 5 and I work nights so it get's kind of complicated with the schedule around here! Aric went up north to his mom's for the holidays is probably why you haven't heard from him. Anyway, we got a ray of light today! My childhood doctor lives in Corpus Christi now and I found that out through the grapevine yesterday. He is the director of education for Christus Spahn hospital which really blew me away so I thought I'd call him up and see if he'd look into the case for us. This guy is what you picture a doctor as. He came up to the hospital tonight and got with the treating physician that's been in her care for the past three weeks, took a long look at her records and had a long talk with the doctor in charge of Kathy, after about an hour he came in and said (medical terminologies don't stick in my head very long) anyway she has a cousin to the mono virus and they should have known that 5 weeks ago!!! That should have been the very first test done on her. They have certainly looked for everything else including mosquito borne virus's etc. Plus all the suggestions we have received from you guys. So as it stands now, this is a mean and nasty virus and the only thing that can cure it is food, yep that's right - nutrition. She should be in the hospital a few more weeks if this is all correct and slowly start to get better everyday little by little! So it sounds like good news, finally! And this doctor did it all for no charge, that is what a good friend of the family and childhood doctor should be! Meanwhile these dufus others have depleted all the veins in both her arms and feet with IV's and taking blood for tests, did 2 spinal taps and were pushing us the past three days, to do another, etc. It is really hard to stay a Godly man through all of this but thanks to your prayers and support as well as everyone else across the country who in one way or another know about this situation, finally God has opened his heart and we are getting to the bottom of all this and hopefully Kathy will come out of this ok. She started losing her vision three days ago and I can only pray that will come back to normal along with the rest of her body as she get's better. The doctor didn't sound like he thought any permanent damage was done and said all these symptoms came along with this virus! God Bless you guys for all that you have been through. Keep the faith, that is so important at this time. You are being tested. Sometimes the tests of our faith are unfair, and the ones who are hurt are our children. I dont presume to understand it, I can only accept it. Please let us know what you hear as soon as you can. Kept praying while away. I am thankful for the breakthrough. Keep the Faith...inspite of anything you hear or see continue to stand on God's promises! You are child of God, and therefore an heir (Romans 8:17). That is God's Word that you have a RIGHT to claim all of His promises in scripture! You have those promises in your possession! Stand on them! God is faithful, and keeps His Word. His Word prevails!! God never changes (Mal 3:6, Heb. 13:8). Do not let the enemy steal from you. God did not place this on Kathy, Satan did - - "The thief (devil) cometh not, but for to steal and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."John 10:10.
