Little girl in need of good thoughts and prayers

This is an e-mail that I recieved from my best friend in Texas, we served together in Turkey, and I love him dearly. One of his sons is named after me, and I am his daughters godfather.

This little girl needs all the good energy and prayers that you freepers can give her. She is in a world of hurt and it just breaks my heart that I can't be there in Texas for them at this trying time. Please read the following, I am leaving it totally unedited, I am hoping that by doing this, I am bringing as much energy to bear on this child as possible through all you wonderful freepers.

By now I'm sure everyone has heard all sorts of stories in all sorts of ways about my daughter and what we're going through right now! I had to come in tonight to take care of a few things around Cuero-way, and spend some time with my boys. What I went through today and the past few weeks I wouldn't wish on even the worst of enemies. Kathy is six years old for some of you who may not know us to well. She came down with a strange and so far, unknown virus the week of Thanksgiving. She's had vomiting, excrussive headaches, back, neck, & leg aches. We have been to San Antonio to a specialist and he performed an endoscopy on her last week to find that her throat, stomach, and intestines were full of ulcers. Saturday night she had stroke like symptoms and was transported to Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus Christi where she spent a few days in PICU. We were moved onto the floor in a regular room day before last. She has had initially the endoscopy and bi-opsies of her stomach and small intestine, a cat scan, mri/mra, two spinal taps (the second today), more sticks and pokes with the needle than a swarm of bees could give ya! So forth and so on... We are still in the fog about what is going on, they have brought in an infectious disease specialist to help, with his team, find out what is going on. Her white blood count is very high, she has pressure on the brain, her optic nerves in both eyes are swollen, the eeg showed abnormal brain waves on the left side of her brain and now they have ordered the second mri/mra series on her and a new set of cultures. The best we could get out of this new Dr. today was she has a fungus type of meningitis. It will take several days for him to determine which strand of the virus it is. Supposed to be hundreds of different types. Anyway, so we are still not certain as to the why's and what for's yet. The wait and watching her suffer are a tremendous stress, to be so helpless in a situation which we can only give to God and pray about! I wanted you to hear it straight from me and right now that is the best and most I can tell you all. She is in room 705 at Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus Christi, TX. Keep us in your prayers -friends! God is the most awesome healing power and I have faith we will get to the bottom of this and get her treated and back on her feet. This is "dad" back on-line tonight. Just wanted to give all my freeper friends, brothers & sisters a little update. First let me thank each and every one of you guys for the prayers and helpful info as well as moral support! Kathy is still in the hospital and we are still in the dark as to what is going on. They had to move the iv to her foot today because all the veins in both arms are too gone and have been stuck to many times for all the various tests. She is scheduled to have a x-ray scan on Wed. and if they still can't find anything they are talking about a test in which they will inject her with dye and go into her veins with cameras to look for some sort of cardio-vascular disease or circulation problem? I'm still not to sure about that one! Enough is Enough!!! Stress, anger, and anxiety are setting in pretty hard now. I wish I could give good news but unfortunatly as of yet, I just don't have any! I have my faith in God that she will pull through all this but it's the watching her suffer and all the pain she has to endure that is tearing her mother and I up! Keep the prayers going and the comments coming. God I pray in your son Jesus' name and thru your grace and honor, in your glory father, and your ultimate devine healing power, to have mercy on my daughter and give her the healing power of your spirit and love. Grant her a speedy recovery and give the doctors in her care the knowledge to figure out the cause of this rare illness! I love you God and I pray for your healing power and that you will heal my daughter, in Jesus most high and glorious name I pray, Amen! I know Aric2000 posted a note on my boys being ill, too. I just wanted to comment on that subject also. They are doing fine, must have been some sort of 24 hour flu. Whatever it was it seems to be over with now. So thank God for that blessing. In our state of mind, it doesn't take much to get us out on a limb right now, especially when the boys began throwing up on Friday. They are 1 and 3. Anyway, that seems to be over with now and just put all your focus back on Kathy again, Thanks! Dennie

And another upadate from Dennie, not about Kathy, but the boys, they were throwing up and Saturday and it scared him greatly, but it seems to have subsided, the boys seem to be alright now, but he is keeping an eye on them.

I was doing my devotions tonite, and a thought struck me... You probably have had this checked out already, but....have they checked for Ecoli? Salmonella?

Yes those were some of the preliminary tests they did about 4 weeks ago since she has been tested for just about every diease, viral, bacterial, fungal, etc. I have had several private messages from folks giving me web-sites and suggestions and I really appreciate every one of you! Keep thinking of things, we are going to find it, God's will, hopefully very very soon! She had kind of a rough night again last night. It was looking like she might have started to improve a little but then they had to transfer her IV last night from her foot back to her hand. Please keep us updated as to how Kathy is. Even though nobody is talking on the thread, I am still checking it all the time, and am very interested in her progress. I have a six year old too (and a 22 month old). They were gone for 3 weeks, and I felt like my world was ending. I am so sorry for what this family is going through and I will continue to pray for the entire family, and for you.

I sure know what you mean. My daughter wants to go to a church-sponsored sleep-over, and I don't know if I could handle her being away for the night. Charlie was like that, too...poor kid, had to have all the sleep-overs here, LOL.

My husband took off with our children after I left for school, on the 8th of November. I came home and found the whole family gone. I feel for this family, because I didnt know if I would get my children back or if he would hide long enough to make the police quit looking. I know they are petrified about Kathy's health. I also believe with all my heart that Kathy will be healed. It is hard to give it to God when there are so many things that seem like they are going wrong. I pray that their prayers will be answered soon, (tonight would be good, God). Hold on to your babies as long as you can, but they also need a little independence. My little ones lost that sense of independence while they were gone, and now I am fighting to restore it.
