Wow, you people really believe that propaganda?
Crime flourished during the prohibition.
Making a popular [and relatively harmless] drug free to use, you
lower the value of it and make it a worthless commodity to the
crime syndicate.
Any person so inclined to reaching for an alcoholic beverage to un-wind - would be better off with a joint-it's effects are more benign and less destructive on the body than alcohol.
a group from the uk took me, as a lark, to the red light district of amsterdam. i saw plenty of soft drug use, but even more hard drug use. hard drugs may be illegal, but they are very easy to obtain in amsterdam.
at first i was sort of mad at my uk colleagues, then i realized they presented me with an eye-opening experience.
If pot were totally decriminalized and people were left alone we wouldn't have the problems we have today.
As you stated "Crime flourished during the prohibition" and if some people (who keep putting weed down) would open their eyes to the truth (as set by example during prohibition) Than they will see that the crime rate soared during that time. There was turf wars (mob wars), drive by shootings (hits). There were more alcoholics during prohibition then before or after.
People like the Kennedy's, Vanderbilts, and others were "boot leggers" and made all kinds of coin during prohibition.
Even some everyday people (like maybe your grandmother(s) and my grandmother(s) and the grandmothers(s) of those who would deny liberty to others) made what was known at the time as "bathtub gin" and sold it (oh no drug dealers) for a profit.
Those deniers of liberty to others, I have a question. Do think your grandmother(s) should have been locked up for 10-? years for their so called horrific crimes? You know maybe if they were, you'd never have been born??????????? That's another debate.
The only way (as set down by example by the repealing of prohibition) to eliminate the drug dealers thus also eliminating the drive bys, turf wars, etc., is to take away the incentive to deal, completely decriminalize marijuana. The price will plummet. The taboo will disappear.
What else would happen if pot were decriminalized?
What else would happen if pot were decriminalized? All those draconian laws would disappear and maybe we the people could pursue happiness (as long as we don't infringe upon the life, liberty or property of another) and help those who are addicted to whatever they are addicted to. Whether that addiction be alcohol, drugs (both legal and not), or anything else one may be addicted to.
