We all cried bloody murder everytime Clinton used executive privilege to keep something private. I don't like this one bit and hope that he can provide a dang good reason for doing it. We must remember that if we are to be any different from the liberals, we should stand on principles as to what's right and wrong, not blind support of our guy.

That was then, this is now. Maybe there will be some spin on how important this is in the never-ending war on terrorism, giving it a Bush flavor.

"...can't we wait to find out a little more why this was done before we proceed with the hanging?
Your points about Congress having the duty to investigate, etc.
are all well taken and correct, of course, but do you really think
they will take appropriate action on either the Boston frame-up case
or the Clinton fund raising matters?
No, they have proven time and again they will NOT take appropriate action...

********

This is no longer a matter for Congress to decide.
Clinton is no longer the President.
He doesn't have the protection of the office any more.

Why isn't Clinton in prison?

Hey, I thought that one was an Italian guy that resembled me a lot. Except not as Bulked Up.

I alternate the pictures, silly.

I checked on the Whitehouse website and couldn't find any of those darling pics. I thought for sure they'd be there.

Sorry to break this off but I have to go take my granddaughter for ice-cream. That's one of the few things I enjoy more than a good discussion. Plus I promised her.

"Do you believe that Bush will prosecute Clinton?"

"Or do you share my belief that Clinton will walk?"

I seem to remember Clinton being impeached, then being allowed to walk.

Must have been another one of those things that you did not have any knowledge of yesterday--like the fact that President Bush had instilled a National Emergency, that Congress had given him the go ahead to use force, that the War Powers Act is one of those legislations that Congress can pass--and that today you are an expert on, or that Bush has not been in office a year yet.

Facts do not seem to matter much to you.

I seem to lack two things that you posses; 1) A crystal ball, and 2) An axe to grind and an agenda to help the Democrats elect one of their own in 2004.

The friend of my enemy is my enemy.

Maybe he's being funny.

He's right, though.
If it was going to happen,
it already would have.

Clinton wins again.

While invoking the privilege, Bush instructed Ashcroft to have the Justice Department ``remain willing to work informally with the committee to provide such information as it can, consistent with these instructions and without violating the constitutional doctrine of separation of powers.''

Checks and balances be damned!

"...most people on this site would say by rote, "Damn that Clinton!" before realizing that Clinton was gone..."

Well said, and all too true.
It certainly appears that the "old boy network" is alive and strong. And/or there is something to hide.
To those that insist that Bush is different and that we should trust him, I direct them to this thread:
The Perils of Totalitarian "Patriotism"
Our founding fathers were quite clear on the issue of "trusting" anyone with our freedom and rights -for any reason.
If anything can be called "un-American" that would be it.

I'm afraid Bush will never go after Clinton. It's a crying shame too. Clinton must have kept a massive dossier that can blackmail lot of people. It's business as usual. When Nixon tried to investigate LBJ, the latter threatened to release some incredibly sensitive information. No one to this day knows what it is and that's after 30 tears. The politcians who are supposed to be the servants of the people sure don't act like it.

OK, but WHY?

I'll just repost what UCANSEE2 wrote because I couldn't have said it better myself.

Here is the reason I believe Bush is doing this for the right reason and not to misuse it.

Aware the White House was considering such a new policy, members of Congress have raised concerns that it will hinder lawmakers from giving proper oversight to federal prosecutions, noting scandals in the past would never have been exposed if Congress had been kept from sensitive documents.

If members of Congress don't like it, that tell's you something. If having access to these documents allowed exposure of scandals by Congress, why do scandals have to be exposed by everyone else but Congress? And why when Congress has full access to these scandals, do they go stick their head in the sand ??????

I have a feeling the words "giving proper oversight" means deciding what they want to keep buried to cover their own asses!

Ashcroft was to have appeared to answer 11 subpoenas in this matter before Burton's committee on 9/11.

This is one of several reasons why GW Bush as a person does not have my respect or trust. I respect the office of the Presidency but I do not respect or trust Bush for doing this, especially without giving complete, sincere and honest reasons.

These things about Bush are deeply troubling and a warning to BEWARE:

His views on communitarianism and the Third Way (World Government)

His unilaterally disarming the US of nuke weapon delivery systems (like his father did in 1991)

His giving US missile defense details to Russia and China

His calling for control of Christian Holy sites in Jerusalem by the PLO (Powell's UN speech to have been delivered 9/11)

His not providing the proper safeguards to protect the rights of innocent citizens in new measures launched to fight terrorism on the domestic front.

His continuing MFN trade treatment for China when China is a terror nation bent on destroying the US.

His calling Islam a religion of peace

His keeping the FBI from investigating solid information against Bin Laden's family in the US prior to 9/11

His deliberately keeping many bad Clinton holdovers in FBI, DOJ and elsewhere in government that he could replace without COngressional approval.

His deliberately keeping many bad Clinton holdovers (Mueller and Mineta for example)in key positions in government for which he sought and received COngressional approval.

His not pursuing and in fact protecting the criminal and treasonous acts by CLinton and his top people involving Chinagate and support for terrorists.(Bush says just move on) This may be related to Bush now claiming executive privlege to keep AShcroft from complying with the 11 Burton Committee subpoenas.

Do not forget that Bush Senior was involved at Mena Arkansas with Bill CLinton and Jackson Stephens.

Do not forget that GW BUsh has been and still is involved with many Saudi businessmen and Jack Stepehns in questionable finacnial arrangements.

The head of FEMA, Joe Albaugh was a registerd lobbyist for Jack Stephens in OK in 1990. Albaugh was GW Bush's chief of staff in Texas and a key lieutenant in Bush's run for governor and President.

Bush is not what he pretends to be and not what many others perceive him to be.

For the record, I am a conservative, Republican Christian.
