Does the French government prohibit the killing of innocent unborn babies in their mother's wombs? Europeans are corrupted to the core, they give more protection to vicious criminals than to unborn babies.

No problem. No problem at all. Incarcerate him for life in a nice, medium security prison...put him in a cell designed for 10 that holds 20 prisoners...all of whom are doing life. Then let the word get out that they can abuse him to their hearts' content without punishment or consequences. But if they kill him, there will be some losses and punishment involved.

And let him live thus, among his new-found buddies, for many years.

Perhaps at the time of his incarceration, someone could smile at him and say "Welcome to Hell."

If the French don't want any of their precious citizens executed, then they shouldn't be sending them over here to commit capital crimes.

Jay Leno: "French troops arrived in Afghanistan last week, and not a minute too soon. The French are acting as advisers to the Taliban, to teach them how to surrender properly." (11/26)

Not to spoil everyone's fun but isn't the French word for 'ask' in fact 'demand'?

Yep. I recall one anecdote from the de Gaulle era -- the people who read French were all out of the office when a document full of "Nous demande" this and "Nous demande" that arrived. Fortunately, one of the Francophones got back from lunch and explained that the words meant "We request".

They may very well surrender to us, and force the US to dump billions of dollars into squaring their country away again.

I never thought of it that way, but that would be a good way to get a ton of money from us, by surrendering to us. Don't give them any ideas. LOL

Isn't it France that has decided that disabled children can sue their mothers doctor for NOT aborting them?

Whoops, I was too literal. 'Aucune personne' should be interpreted here as 'someone' so as to avoid a double negative in English.

Quite all right -- no apologies needed.

High time the French tossed their silly language, and spoke English like everyone else. Harrumph!

Perhaps the article was written by a French reporter with English as his/her second language who didn't understand the connotation in English of 'demand'.

I think you're right.

From Le Monde

My (unpractised) translation:

Mr. Rivasseau has added that Paris would ask Washington that Zacarias Moussaoui not be condemed to capital punishment, abolished in France 20 years ago. The minister of justice, Marylise Lebranchu, had declared on radio privée RMC-Info  "We accept neither the death penalty nor special tribunals."

Yes, but 'aucune personne.. .ne doit être exécutée' could either be translated as ' a person must not be executed' or 'a person should not be executed'.

Turns out it's moot, anyway. The terrorist scum has refused French consular protection.

France is also the birthplace of Madame Guillotine and of the enlightening thinkers that brought for "liberty, fraternity and equality" over millions of corpses, establishing a reign of terror only exceeded in modern times by Stalin and Mao.
