Romans 12:2a--"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."

I Corinthians l:18-21--"For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: 'I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.' Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe."

Proverbs 28:26--"He who trusts in himself is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom is kept safe."

Just food-for-thought!

The Ultimate Creation vs. Evolution Resource [11th Revision] is now online for those who want to learn from the past.

Besides, we needed an updated version, anyway...

Well, considering that all people came from two would mean that no new gentic information is introduced. It doesn't take much in terms of inbreeding to generate defects. With only two sources of genetic information, the situation would spiral out of control within a few generations. I do not consider my self knowledgeable in the area of genetics or religion, but common sense shows the literal interpretation of the Bible has conflict with real world genetics and moral guidelines set by the Bible itself. I think there is a better explination, the Bible was worded so that man may understand, 2000 years ago, they would not have comprehended a billion years, evolution, and other such ideas. God still created us, but the idea was explained to us so we would understand, kinda like how we explain big ideas to kids.

Why aren't all cars and trucks perfect? Does their being imperfect mean they weren't designed?

Obviously, humans were supposedly designed by the infallible God, whereas cars are designed by Japanese guys. One is fallible, the other isn't.

Obviously, humans were supposedly designed by the infallible God...

Who said that? Did you ever hear ME say that?

That is what the Bible says, God directly creates Adam and then directly creates Eve with a piece of Adam. What do you think?

I think you've got a curious mishmash of things in Genesis, some of which are literally true and others of which amount to the best understanding people at a later time were able to come up with.

I think the engineering and reengineering of complex living forms was a common thing before the flood and I see more than one set of hands in it. Whoever created humans and cats and whoever created biting flies and mosquitos were different characters.

Trust us: The speed of light in a vacuum has always been 300,000 kps. It's written into the universe's constitution or something.

There's a basic number in nature so basic that physicists just call it 'alpha'. It's also known as the fine structure constant. But now some scientists are saying that number might not be a constant after all. It may have changed slightly as the universe has evolved. In this hour of Science Friday, we'll talk about what that finding, if true, might mean for other laws of the universe.

Oh yeah, I vaguely remember something about alpha having changed slightly from its initial value. I couldn't find any articles on that here, although I vaguely remember people talking about it hereabouts.

Anyway, if true, it wouldn't make much difference for whether the universe is young or old, would it, Physicist?

One of the threads was called "Time May Amend Physics Laws Such as Speed of Light", but I can't find it with the search feature or with Google. It happened back in August. There was at least one other thread about it.

No. First of all, a change in the fine structure constant doesn't mean that there was a change in the speed of light; second of all, it only changed by one part in 100,000 over something like 8 billion years.

Actually, the wing structure of birds, bats, and pterodons is/was completely different, and also different from that of flying squirrels and flying frogs. Exactly as one would suspect if the different structures were evolved by chance variation and natural selection at different times from different ancesteral forms, even though the function served was similar or the same.

As for the legs of birds, and their subsequent walk, there is a great variety of leg structure in birds, and a consequent great variety in their gaits. Moreover, more modern reconstruction of the bipedal dinosaurs indicates that they walked more like birds than like mammals on their hind legs, and not much at all like modern reptiles.

The argument from ignorance, about unknown "intermediate forms" and the "functionality of intermediate forms" is really a dead issue, one from before the development of genetics since the discovery of DNA in the 50's. Since there is LOTS of redundant DNA in any organism, the intermediate form could be purely genotypical, and not make its appearence in the phenotype until a fully functional trait was formed in the DNA blueprint.
