Anybody that doesn't think that the cops dont already know what guns you've bought from a gun dealer in the last 20 years is out of their mind. Even straw purchases. Put pressure on the seller and they will track down who currently owns the gun.

Can you say "incrementalism?" Was there ever any doubt that at some point the Gestapo would get access to those records? Was anyone who favored this kind of de facto registration naive enough to believe it would stop there? This is exactly why the gun-stealers can be given NO CONCESSIONS WHATSOEVER!

Are these the same records they told us they were keeping for only a limited time period, like 60 days or something?

Great the 2 butt boys of gun control. Wish they would just go for along drive off of a bridge. This time Teddy's too old and fat to get out.

Kennedy joined Sen. Charles Schumer of New York in offering the measure. Both are members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, before which Ashcroft testified on Thursday.
Schumer and Kennedy = Rights for the terrorist and none for gun owners. Fat punks.

This bill will inevitably become law. The Republicans should simply make sure it is limited to terrorist investigations, and let it pass. They can't stop it, they shouldn't try. It's no big deal.

What records? I thought that the instant chek system was destroying records after 6 months and that Ashcroft has made that 90 days? What happened? Does our government have an illegal database?

More people are killed every year by a far deadlier weapon than guns - AUTOMOBILES. Just ask the family of Mary Jo Kopechne and Senator Ted Kennedy.

I have an idea for a compromise. We'll take all of those records and load them onto a truck. We then park that truck on the far end of a bridge. If the FBI wants those records, all that needs be done is to drive that truck over the bridge, crossing over a deep body of water.
The only condition is that Teddy has to drive.
