I didn't realize you wrote the forum software. For clarity and ease of use, it's excellent. And the fundamental idea of allowing thousands of people to post articles and respond to them is a great one--a material contribution to freedom of speech. Thanks.

Simply put, this is the greatest website on the Internet.
It is.

The history of FreeRepublic is interesting, but what's really important is what it is now.............magnificent.

Keep up the good work, we are all behind you!

JR, very good story so far. Can't wait for part II. As soon as I get ahead (around 1 year away) I'll make a contribution for the amount of time I've been a user and for the future. Thanks, CC

I might point out that Prodgy was caught, by some very sharp hackers, who found that the service was getting into subscribers computers and uploading anything they had to their server. This was being done to aid Sears marketing people.
When it was proven, IBM claimed that there was "some errors" that had been inadvertantly put into the code.
That was of course about a hundred lines of code

"I am still a relative "newbie" but Mr.Robinson what you have achieved here is a wonderful asset to me as a Conservative and I thank you (even though sometimes my wife dosen't appreciate the value of this forum) Thanks Again !!! " The above sentiments of 'Rightly Biased' echo mine exactly. However my wife is coming around. Perhaps one day I can get her to pick a nickname and contribute.

FreeRepublic has made a difference for our country. It probably played a significant part in defeating Al Gore and the prospect that clintonism would continue under other auspices. We aren't out of the woods yet, but we have seen an end to one of the darkest periods in our country's history.
It's also the single best place to catch up with the news, regardless of your political persuasion.

I have been on other forums while lurking here off and on for several years.
I decided to register and participate on your great site.
I am a *newbie* and a monthly donor.
I have found that a newbie is anyone who was not one of the orginial members.
I am totally addicted.
Thanks to you Jim and FR, I have maintained my sanity(I think)

...Government growing beyond our consent had become a lumbering giant, slamming shut the gates of opportunity, threatening to crush the very roots of our freedom. What brought America back? The American people brought us back--with quiet courage and common sense; with undying faith that in this Nation under God the future will be ours, for the future belongs to the free.
RONALD REAGAN
State of the Union Address
4 February 1986
...with quiet courage and common sense
Thank you Mr.Robinson
