Most Honda Civics in 1999 were built in the US or Canada, but some were still imported from Japan. They all looked identical, and one could only tell by checking the first character of the VIN (1,2,J). The interiors (at least the cloth seat covers) and some parts were from China. So, an American-made Japanese car contains Chinese parts. [Bridgestone-] Firestone tires -- American or Japanese?

Two quick questions...where do the profits from these "Japanese" cars go? Does the Japanese government still subsidize their automakers? Honest questions, I don't know.
