Judges hear evidence from nuisance parrot

A German court has evicted a pet parrot for causing a nuisance after summoning it to give evidence in court.

The Duesseldorf judge wanted to hear the bird for himself, following years of neighbour complaints about its racket.

After being summoned with his owner, Cora introduced himself clearly to the judge and broke into a cackling laugh.

The court in Duesseldorf heard how neighbours had suffered the "unbearable" squawking noises of the exotic bird.

One neighbour claimed she had suffered psychiatric damage from the pet bird's persistent singing.

When an expert witness certified the high-frequency sounds penetrated walls, Cora gave a nonchalant "Ja, Ja" in reply and as female jurors left the court he wolf-whistled after them.

After listening to all the evidence and Cora's noisy testimony, Judge Dirk Kruse ordered the owner to pay a £60 fine and move his pet to another address.

Upon leaving the court, the cheeky bird gave a loud, shrill whistle down the waiting journalists' microphones.
