taught a few Americans about the superior capabilities of Yugoslav and RS intelligence networks.

The same one's who led Milosevic to believe that he could hold onto Kosovo in the face of Western military action and allowed Karadzic to misjudge the West in much the same manner after Srebrenica with the continuation of the shelling of Sarajevo?

Bunch of amateurs, Fusion. Judge an intelligence service by the health of the state it serves - and the 'eyes' of Yugoslavia and the RS are myopic to a fault and have directly contributed to the reduced circumstances that their masters now find themselves in.

I'm going to respectfully disagree with your view that the RS and Yugoslav intelligence services are a bunch of "amateurs." Your point about the health of the state has some validity, but I can assure you that right now Banja Luka (Pale) and Belgrade are dancing circles around Langley...

However, let's see what happens in the next few weeks and then revisit this question...

It's quite interesting you refer to British author Simon Winchester's "Professor and the Madman" in this context. I don't know how well forum members can search out Canadian newsmagazines, but those diligent enough to do so may find insight that refutes the Humanitarian Warrior's claims about fictional sources and such...

If you can find the August 21, 2000 issue of Maclean's magazine you will see an article about Canadian Shaun Going, who was arrested by the Yugoslav apparat in Montenegro the first week of August last year.

Both author Winchester and Mr D are quoted in the article. This is interesting in another sense because it lends credence to certain speculation about an event in Winchester's next book "The Fracture Zone."

During the Kosovo War, Winchester stops over in Tirana before joining General Jackson in Macedonia. On pp 174-75 he describes a dinner at the Black Rooster where he, his assistant, the aforementioned Mr Going, and "an American named ****, who came from North Carolina" got together.

Since Winchester has been associated with MI-6 long before his heroics in the Falklands and Buenos Aires in 1982, Mr Going is rather well connected, and Mr D is, well ... Mr D -- it would have certainly been interesting no doubt to be privy to that conversation only hours before the Brits went in to Kosovo...

However this post not about mistaken conclusions by a fellow forum member but instead Serb intelligence capabilities. I might suggest that Ivanic is in trouble now -- his return to Banja Luka next week liable to result in a firestorm...

If one could slip a bug into a certain smoking room at the Intercontinental Hotel in Zagreb this weekend, one might become privy to the plans of a couple of American businessmen and their negotiating strategy when they confront Ivanic next week.

The RS PM expecting another fastball from this group but instead likely to get a hard breaking curve ball in the dirt. Off balance by this surprise, and last week's resignations, Ivanic is vulnerable to Serb intelligence agencies that certainly do not work, or care, for him...

If he lasts that long, the threatened union strikes in late January will finish Ivanic unless he turns back to Dodik. Once again the SDS and the hardliners triumph...

In Albania, one of the legendary "handfull of America's best" -- the Hawk -- due next week. This is significant, leading Belgrade to realize two things far in advance of Langley...

First, this is a subtle indication of Washington's support for Nano in his fight with Meta -- no doubt a certain NGO about to receive a fat new tranche.

Secondly, the fate of Hajdari to be shared by someone fairly high up. This result will shock the Meta government and lead to a number of revenge killings as permitted under the Code of Lek...

No doubt Fatos Klosi and Mr D to be comparing notes again before long...

The Americans have taken four quarters of punishing intelligence hits in the Balkans and -- like the freshman running back in the big game -- have fumbled the ball at the goal line...

Now, only the veteran Brit ends in a position to recover the rock and save the day. However the Oxford Dons have drifted out of position themselves -- how quick can London react?

Regardless, the opposition now in position to scoop up the ball and go the distance with a spectacular length of field run that makes the Miami stunner against Boston College Pale in comparison. Lateral is as lateral does...

The boys (and girls) in Banja Luka and Belgrade are professionals who don't make mistakes. From Tirana to Skopje, Prishtina to Tetovo, and Banja Luka to Belgrade -- the Balkan spooks running circles around the American 401k watchers...

Mr D's buddy David Evans had better make a few phone calls and get somebody on the ground pronto -- or heads will roll after this Balkan "Miracle at the Meadowlands."

Dry is good and wind is better...

The forces of freedom on the move. Europe trembles.
