"Give the french a break. They're beside themselves these days. There's so much action going on in the world, which of course presents so many opportunities for surrender that they've become downright giddy trying to plan them all.:

Hehe, must be tough to be French, to believe you are so culturally superior, yet no one gives you any respect, or even pays attention when you talk. LOL

I don't agree with you very often but have often thought of you as dishonest.

While there is no doubt that religious motivations played a historical role in anti-Semitism in Europe, I tend to think that it has been overestimated.

Thanks for the history lesson.

Unfortunately you don't seem to understand how human opinions are formed. Their single most important source is via their parents. For hundreds of years the people of Germany were told that the Jews murdered Christ and that they were to be despised for it.

Martin Luther, from whom sprang the overwhelmingly primary religion of Germany, was without question one of the biggest haters of Jews in the history of this planet. This is an ironclad irrefutable fact documented by Luther's own written words.

That's the real history of Germany's penchant for anti-Semitism. Glad to help you out.

We were never taught to hate those following Hebrew traditions since our beliefs are theres until we accepted the arrival of the Messiah.

Maybe you weren't but many were.

Luther preached murdering Jews. In the neighborhood I grew up in the kids at the local Catholic school were told that that the Jews killed Christ and left many of their students hating present day Jews. I experienced it first hand.

Maybe I'm just confused here, but I thought the original topic here was anti-Semitism in Western Europe countries like France (which has had little Lutheran influence over the years).

Again, I say that religious-based anti-Semitism even in Germany has been exaggerated. By the time the late 1920s rolled around Germany was a thoroughly secular state, and most people there couldn't care less about who Jesus Christ was, let alone who killed him.

Go back and trace the cultural development of Germany under the Weimar Republic. If you really want an eye-opening lesson, pay particular attention to the remarkable similarities between Weimar Germany and the United States today. Then ask yourself how these chilling similarities can exist when there just any many Jews as non-Jews in the forefront of the moral decline of America.

What are the remarkable similarities and what role do you feel American Jews are playing in it?

The major similarities are two-fold:

1. The rapid advancement of science and technology. Few people seem to remember that in the 1930s the U.S. was nothing more than a rural backwater compared to Germany. Germany, not the United States, was at the forefront of almost every major scientific advance in the decade, and nowhere was this more evident than in the military hardware (automatic rifles, jet airplanes, rockets, etc.) that was used in the Second World War.

2. The complete secularization of the political culture and state-controlled functions. This process is particularly evident (and extremely damaging) in the medical profession and public schools. Medicine, science and technology now operate outside any moral or ethical bounds, and the sheer pragmatism of the scientific community has resulted in a total acceptance of medical procedures and research (abortion, euthanasia, embryonic research, etc.) that Americans once recoiled from. The entire notion, in fact, of "a life not worth living," dates back to the atheistic, pragmatic views of 19th-century philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. This "Nietzschean" culture was the basis for the cultural development of Weimar Germany, and the atrocities of the Third Reich would never have been possible if this secular culture had not already been in place. Hitler makes an easy target, but the reality is that the German government was killing off "undesirables" (such as physically and mentally handicapped people) before Hitler was even on the scene. Shipping Jews and Slavs into death camps was only one more step along that road.

The role that modern American Jews have played in the cultural decline of the United States is unmistakable. Almost every major Jewish organization (the AJC and the ADL, for example) has been at the forefront of the movement to eliminate any religious influence in the public schools, and they sold their souls long ago to become unapologetic supporters of almost every liberal cause. Most of the early "pioneers" in the abortion industry were Jewish "doctors" (Bernard Nathanson, Henry Morgantaler, etc.), and many of the CEOs in the entertainment industry (Michael Eisner of Disney, Gerald Levin of Time/Warner, etc.) that have presided over a complete debasement of any semblance of a moral culture in the U.S. are Jewish.

Im an American who believes that using suicide bombers to further a political agenda is a crime before God.Im most certainly pro Israel, and I know I will get flamed for this, but I have lived in the middle east and have seen what type of people the Arabs and muslims are.Not all of them,of course, but enough of them to have a built in distrust of Arabs in general, and a loathing of Islam.Perhaps Im wrong,Aspide, but I took your question to be critical. Was it?Support for the Palestinians is support for terrorism, period.I dont care about refugee camps and displaced homelands.Once the Palestinians embarked on their long campaign of savagery and butchery, they became criminals on a par with child molesters. So go ahead and flame away, but I think Palestinians are subhuman.

It strikes me as odd when one attributes the decline of a civilization to an incredibly small percentage of the population. It's eerily similar to the words Hitler used in the 1930's. Even odder, you two have the same target in your sights.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough about this point -- I did not single Jews out for any criticism here. I have made no attempt to "blame" one group or another for the cultural decline of America. My point was that in light of the Third Reich I would have expected Jews to know better than anyone else the danger of a secular state that is not limited by any moral constraints.

Maybe not. The one thing we learn from history is that we don't learn anything from history.

"Sharon is determined to implement very excessive, unjust measures against the Palestinian Authority," Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit said.

Something to remember in our future dealings with Turkey: Their current Prime Minister is either delusional or pro-terrorist. Some choice.

I am a Turk living in amsterdam . I have been in Israel as well as in Turkey for military exchanges in 99 .I must say Sharon and Arafat are the same as Hitler. I fear if the Israeli government gets more extreme it will be over between Turkey and Israel. Never forget Israel might be strong but Turkey will fight till the last man and Israel has very very little to defend. Jews are people of God,but Sharon is a bloodthirsty big.
