The failure of the Dutch press to feret out this story from the start and the conspiracy of the Dutch politicians to keep this quiet is perhaps the most appalling aspect of this.

I lived in Germany for a while and saw (and heard from the locals that I socialized with) things about the 'street people' that blew my mind. "That guy gets 2000DM a month just to beg.", etc, etc.
I've seen a lot of 'street people' here in the States and if they 'only knew' about the EU welfare state, the US would not have a 'homeless problem' at all.
Heck, these people here would sober up and get jobs long enough to try and gain citizenship in a place like Amsterdam just for those type of 'benefits'.
Whatever it was, there's some totally crazy stuff over there that they pass off as rational government - then, there's the hypocrisy of it all. The government tells this story about the census to the effect that you can't tell someone's race by looking at the numbers and categories.
Even a child can identify "race" in that census - it's all in the categories if you know how to read them.

You were misled by all those comparisons of American crime rates with those of the Northern European police states.
Actually, all things considered, virtually all parts of the United States would show up with roughly the European "average" (not counting Eastern Europe). A few parts of the US have far-above-average crime rates in all categories, and that raises the national average.
Now, when we dump Eastern Europe into the Northern and Western European statistics, Europe comes off very much worse than the US - kind of in between the US and Brazil.

I don't think it's possible to have a "worst view" on the Netherlands. It's just a place, with tulips, beer, and wooden shoes. It's just some of the people IN the Netherlands that are the problem. I think many FReepers have a dim view of the Dutch socialist policies since the end of WWII. You guys shot your wad a long time ago.

My understanding(pre taliban) was that in such a case, Achmed would be separaeted from his "Al Gherkin". Of course, their sharia has since mutated out of control. How about this? If I understand correctly, to prove rape sharia requires the woman to produce three witnesses - women only count half. If the woman can't prove she was raped, she is in danger of being executed for fornication.
