I recall them always saluting Bubba. I also remember seeing him return salutes, but it always had that Mike-Dukakis-riding-in-a-tank feel to it. He just looked goofy doing it.

You're right. I found out it was a military courtesy they didn't show clinton. After the salute, the marine turns to face the back of the CIC so he will be facing him if and when the CIC turns to talk to the marine. I heard that was a slap in clinton's face but he probably didn't know it was a slap. I guess the Marines didn't want to hear what clinton had to say or on second thought they already did.
