Your "statistics" are absolutely wrong! I am a physician, and I will tell you that OBESITY is a MUCH bigger risk figure for people than smoking. A thin smoker will live longer, and have less risk for heart attacks, diabetes, stroke, high blood pressure, than a fat non-smoker. Even more dangerous than smoking is having a family history of early heart disease. You can be a nonsmoking vegetarian who exercises 4 times per week, but you'll die at age 40 if your dad had an MI near that age.

I agree with you; my wife's uncle was 45 when he had his fatal infarction and he was a smoker and a heavy drinker; his son was a non-drinker and never smoked. He also died at the age of 45 of an MI.
They were both at least 50 pounds over ideal weight at the time of their deaths.

I am a physician, and I will tell you that OBESITY is a MUCH bigger risk figure for people than smoking.I knew this! I'm a nurse and worked in long term care facilities for several years. There were still a few smokers around in their 80's, but NO obese residents.
