If you have the gun and have the training, when the time comes you have a CHOICE. And if you have the tool as well as the knowledge, attitude, and skills that come from training, the choice is yours.

Although I do not condemn the Second Amendment, there are other "choices" which do not necessitate the use of a gun.

True. But generally speaking, in full-on you-or-them situations, a gun is the best way to go :) Most of the time, the trigger doesn't even need to be pulled.

What I meant was that if you have a gun, you will always have the choice whether or not you use it. If you don't have a gun, you do not have the choice to use it. That being said, since the ONLY time you can use a firearm in self defense is if you truly believe your live is threatened, I would want nothing less at that point. Nor would I recommend any alternative for someone, particularly a woman, where the disparity of force in an unarmed confronation with a man guarantees that she would at least suffer great bodily harm if not death.
