Welcome to Phase II of the war on terrorism. Yesterday President Bush talked tough about Iraq, and you don't need to read tea leaves to sense the administration's shifting focus. Saddam Hussein senses it. According to news reports, he's begun hiding his military equipment.
Maybe it's when he heard Condoleezza Rice call him a "threat to us because he is determined to acquire weapons of mass destruction." Or when Undersecretary of State John Bolton declared that "beyond al Qaeda, the most serious concern is . . . Iraq's biological weapons program." Or when Donald Rumsfeld said there was "no question" about the "interaction" between "the al Qaeda and people in Iraq and . . . other terrorist-sponsoring states over the years." Or when President Bush proclaimed that "Afghanistan is just the beginning. . . . We will not be secure as a nation until all of these threats are defeated."

let's face a few facts here:
1. Hussein is a pariah on the Middle East. For all Saudi Arabia's protestations that they will come to the aid of their "muslim brother" should the U.S. attack Iraq, the fact is they'll sit on their hands, talk loudly in protest, then be silently very thankful that the U.S. did their dirty work and got rid of their "bad neighbor."
2. The Bush family has a score to settle. Papa Bush didn't finish the job. Seems GW (and I mean that respectfully) isn't his daddy. He sees quite clearly the dangers that Iraq poses and the opportunity to strike out and eliminate Hussein. Hussein has developed biological weapons (anthrax) and that's well documented. His pursuit of Russian nuclear engineers is also well documented. He has the money to pay them so they can feed their families, and the motivation to obtain and use nuclear weapons. No time like the present, and all in the name of winning the war on terrorism. Hussein is a dead-man.
3. Syria is next, following Iraq. They've harbored and promoted terrorism for decades. Their seat on the Human Rights commission in the U.N. is a farce. If for no other reason, Syria must pay because of their terrorist past.
4. Libya after Syria.
So it's official.
Iraq is next.
